    Hey guys-

I'm trying to update the various bits and pieces of my G73, which I haven't done since I got it in August. I've seen a bunch of different threads around here about vBIOSs and BIOSs and different drivers and stuff, and while I want to have the latest greatest stuff, this is also my school computer and I enjoy it not being a brick.

Anyway, I'm not even entirely sure what needs to be upgraded with what.

I'm running BIOS 206 with vBIOS 012.017.000.004.3359.A336. I noticed Gary's thread about updates and such to solve the GSOD, which hasn't happened to me.

Here's the info from Catalyst about my video drivers:

I noticed people discussing they're running 10.10, and that's up on the ATI page for download- do I need to snag that by itself, do I need to upgrade my drivers, or will grabbing 10.10 do it for me? I've heard the regular ATI drivers aren't always the best.

Here's the info from DXDiag about my sound stuff- the driver is the same for Audio 2:

I downloaded the HD codecs that are posted in the "Fix G73 issues" thread, but I'm not sure if I need them. I'm also not sure how to check the version number to tell.

For future reference: Is there a tool that can check all the driver versions? I figure it might make knowing what my info is a lot easier.

If all of this is answered somewhere else, I'm sorry for reposting, but I figured it's better to ask "How do I do it" instead of coming back and asking "How do I fix it."

    Thanks!

I would First make a bootable USB key as described in the GSoD thread in the stickies. Then update your bios to 211, then update your vBios, then update to catalyst 10.10. Make sure you update your bios before installing 10.10. 10.10 would not work for me on stock vbios. The Ati download for 10.10 includes all the drivers you need. There are programs that monitor your drivers for updates, but I don't use 'em. Someone else can fil you in though.

Alright, so I flashed my BIOS/vBIOS without incident, and then installed Catalyst 1.010 downloaded from the ATI website. Problem is, Catalyst doesn't work anymore- it comes up with this error when I try to start it. Everything in the install works fine (as far as I know), except this. The driver still works, which is the important part- I fired up TF2 for a few minutes without any issues.

I know the window isn't terribly descriptive; I can give more information if you need.

Looks like you may have downloaded just the latest Catalyst Control Center install package instead of downloading the complete install package which includes the matching driver.

That's probably what happened- I'm downloading the other option right now and I'll see how that goes.

EDIT: Ok, it works fine now. The download packages aren't really differentiated well, so I downloaded the one that is the Catalyst installer instead of the downloader that independently downloads the Catalyst installer + drivers.
