So I'm trying to find an answer for this somewhere but can't find anything. I've got the Asus G51J from Newegg with the NVIDIA 360M video card and 1080p screen.

Do I need to do anything to use the NVIDIA 3D vision? Basically I want the G51J-3D. Do I need to upgrade my screen? I saw that that the 3D has the same GPU as mine....

3D is a poorly supported gimmick - Nvidia marketing hype that tried & failed to hide their horribly late GTX400 series. Don't get caught up in it and be disappointed. Plus the 3D screen they tacked on the G51J and JX is only 1366x768 res. Look up ORP and current price and you'll see how popular the G51J3D and G51JX3D aren't.

It would be much cheaper and less dumb (it's already pretty dumb IMO to want a 3D screen) to trade in and buy the 3D model. This way you would not only save $$$ but would also not void your warranty.

The screen would need to be changed as a normal lcd would run at 60hertz. Where else a 3d screen would need to be at least 120 hertz if i'm not wrong. 3d technology has been around since the Geforce 1 cards. I know because i had a Asus Geforce 1 card with the 3d glasses 7 years ago. Reason they could do then was because CRT monitors would easily hit that kind of refresh rates. The only reason i would can think of having 3d is to watch 3d movies. You could always use an external monitor thou... About the glasses part i have no idea..
