I'm tossing around the idea of upgrading my G1 hard drive to an SSD. I've currently got Win XP Pro on it now, which is still OK but it's a tired OS. Been using Win 7-64 on my Asus P7 desktop and love it.

The laptop is a G1-AK024C, with 2GB memory and a 250GB HD. Would it be worth it to switch to an SSD of around 120GB and put Windows 7 or possibly 8 on it? How much, if any, would my battery life improve? On a full charge it shows roughly an hour. It's a couple years old, so I'm sure there's a bit of aging.

Being this is a 32-bit machine, and it's a Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz CPU, will this be a good investment or no? I don't want to waste a fresh license of Windows 7/8 if I can get a newer laptop for the same $$$ or better. Whaddya guys thnk?

    Hello gkit16-

Yes, you would experience a slight increase in performance with a solid state drive over a mechanical drive. Your battery life would also improve, most likely up to 3-5%. Boot times speeds would increase greatly, however, up to 700% faster. Compare an HDD 70MB/s vs an SSD which can do 500MB/s.

Windows 7 Home Premium is what I would suggest as well.

    Hope that helps...
    Cheers!
