yeah, three strikes and the system blows up. I'm thinking it has something to do with power and automatic shutdown.

My problem seems to be my memory. I hope it's not a compatibility issue. Here's a quick screen shot of it being successful with the default ram.

I was able to reproduce the issue using OCCT linpack since it utilizes 90% of your memory. Once my memory rocketed the frequency of firefox and chrome both crashing went up. I swiped all but one module out and it tested fine. Since I have a boat load of the HyperX memory I replaced the 3 original modules with two new HyperX modules. Testing right now and so far no crashes.

I cannot believe that the Asus screen saver causes more heat in this system than OCCT. I guess it's the new "ultimate" burn test. lol.
-
use linx 6.4 instaed of occt.
reason why...you want to watch the gflops... this will tell you how well your memory is working, when it's working. the higher the better. there is no real standard yet because no one has really been testing for it in the laptop world.
and i checked and asked a few people about the strike counter...and no one knows what it is...they suggested calling asus and asking. -
-
probably voltage...
may need higher than what your giving it.
and if your system is a triple channel setup like the desktop version..your gonna want to ditch the last chip anyway. -
-
did you mess with the power in any way?

I remember a bios update for the W90 I think it was just to add compatibility for more memory IC's for sure the memory you have can cause problems. Its a lot more than just voltage than can be a attributing factor.
Was a lot of issue with memory compatibility in the C90S also. But all said I think its good news that you probably found the problem and that the system itself is fine. The ram my system came with is great I see no reason to replace it. Its even 1333mhz(im not one to care about that the 1066 is just fine as well)

tis is true vic...

hummmm...next step...
system restore to yesterday or earlier today -

not like I will ever need 8gb anyways.
But not willing to pay $1200 for a cpu, thats almost the cost of the entire unit and killing the warranty to boot. -
Quick question for the ones who have put in the i7-920XM:
I heard that there were throttling issues with higher end CPU's in the Alienwares and Sager/Clevo/Metabox, is this happening with the G73?
I saw Vic's post with the power readings on different loads, did it make much of a difference with the 920XM?
P.S. Sorry if this has been answered somewhere in a different thread, but they can get VERY long to go though. -

if that allowed you to play wow at 450fps...you would be all over that!...lol

There was a power change I forgot about. I added a second hard disk. I just put back all the regular memory and it booted fine. I also removed the second drive.

looks like we have a winner.
so now you know...you will need to slim down to bench accordingly... -

mand, no problems here.... yet.. I only have 2 sticks installed right now. But I am also running 2 HD's
