Hi forum. I am new here and ive been thinking about this for a while. My question is can I upgrade my g50vt-x2 laptop with more RAM and more hard drive memory? If so, I am thinking to upgrading the RAM to 6GB and what would you recommend and for the hard drive memory I just need more space since I deal a lot with editing videos and music. And if your asking yourself why not just buy a desktop is because I am always on the road. :)

Here are the specs that it has:
    Newegg.com - ASUS G Series G50VT-X2 NoteBook Intel Core 2 Duo P8600(2.40GHz) 15.4" Wide SXGA+ 4GB Memory 320GB HDD 7200rpm DVD Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GS

    Thanks in advance,

    Jorge

The laptop you have there is actually maxed out at 4GB of RAM so you would be unable to upgrade to 6 GB.

For the hard drive, since it is just a storage concern for videos and music, I would actually recommend getting an external, portable drive. I do a lot of video editing myself and I keep all of my media files on an external drive, while my program files stay on the primary hard drive. Performance wise, this setup has worked great and since it is a portable drive I can take it anywhere!

Thanks for the reply Brett! Kinda dissapointed that the RAM is maxed out. I do the same with an external hard drive but my question on expanding the RAM and Hard Drive memory was because I also use many VST's that need to be installed on the laptop itself and VST's take a lot of RAM. Can I still upgrade my Hard Drive Memory?

Actually the G50vt can take up to 8GB RAM, this is confirmed by other users on this forum as well as Everest on my machine. It will see the full 8GB of RAM.

As the for hard drive, you actually have a second available slot so you can buy any 2.5" internal HDD and you're all set. One of the slots supports 12mm hard drives so you can actually put up to 1TB more into your computer.

Your laptop may not come with an extra hard drive bracket, as mine did not. You can either buy one from the Asus eStore or just use a piece of foam or something nonconductive to hold it in place (don't wrap it up in foam though, otherwise you'll make the heat build up; just wedge it in place). Many people have even gone without the bracket just fine.

I would personally just recommend a bigger hard drive and maybe a single 4GB stick of RAM, unless you have a lot of money to burn and feel like getting the full 8GB.
