Hello.
In last couple weeks I have been playing with idea to try and see if asus g73sw which is sandy bridge (hm65 chipset) equiped laptop could be upgraded with ivy bridge cpu since they are using same socket and are essentialy same with different litography.
So yestrday I dissasembled laptop and installed 3630qm cpu and laptop starts up and shuts imidiately with power light button blinking on of constantly. So far I have added cpu microcode found in asus g75 (ivy bridge) bios and after that laptop does not shut down but is still with black screen and no post.
If someone who have very good knowledge on this please say reason for why there is no chance so I can spend my time on something more useful.
However I am open for any sugestions and are not afraid to test any ideas or bios modifications you might have.

Hey jmhdj,
as the G73JH came out, i did some of the first steps of vbios mods for me and the community. A bios update bricked my laptop and Asus didnt granted me my warrantie because my GPU heatsink was repasted....... but before my sucessfully diy repasting, i had problems with overheating...... very very unfair and unrealistic kind of view from Asus to the customer. They told me they now the problems, but they would change things first if more people would write to them...... and we all now, that the most people just take things how they are.
As i see........you not, like meFor me its time to get this G73JH alife again! I bought a new board and a i7 3630qm like you and i would like to swap the HD5870m with a GTXm card as you did. Can you send me your bios file for a G73JH that should work with a Nvidia card?
After i get it working, i will support you with the ivy bridge upgrade
Greetings from germany. -
To be able to mod g73jh for nvidia cards you need programmer. So if you are not into soldering then I cant help you.
I see you mention you have 3630qm but you know it is impossible to think g73jh can be upgraded with ivy bridge cpu as that is to many steps forward comparing it with g73sw.yoshey791 likes this.
