I have a G53JW-XN1 with a USB 3.0 port. However I plug a 3.0 external enclosure in and it doesn't work. I noticed that there is a bios update from 209 to 210. Do I need that for my usb 3.0 port to work??

IF you plug in a USB 2 device into the port does it work?
Do you get an error with the USB 3 device?
Unfortunately, ASUS rarely includes a change log with BIOS updates... UGH I miss DELL's way...
If you ever find a need to update BIOS do not do it from windows, hit F2 at startup and use the utility within the BIOS.

well the enclosure only works on my newer desktop its supposedly backward compatible but I am starting to think its the enclosure controller. I just seen the bios update and figured that it enabled usb 3.0 support. That would be crazy that they ship a laptop with usb 3.0 port and you have to update the bios to get it to work, but I wasnt for sure hence my question. So I will try another enclosure first before flashing. and yes I know to use easy flash thanks to all the threads on this forum.. Thanks for the reply.

There's a BIOS option that enables/disables 3.0, plus you can update the Fresco 3.0 drivers.
