So as my temps continue to rise slowly. I decided it might be time to flush out the fans of any built up dust.
What would the easiest way to do this be? Ill take off the access panel and spray some in there. But when it comes to the fans, do I want to be spraying air into the fans? Will it get blown out the access panel?
Can any damage be done blowing air in?
Please if anyone has done this before and could share some insight how I should go about it.
Thank you.

just use a pin/needle put it inside the fan exhaust to stop the fan spinning freely and than use a compressed air and blow dust out heheh..thats what i do..
-
Ok great idea, will try that. Do you find much crap comes out? Had this lappy for nearly 6months so I'm guessing theres goin to be some goodies in there lol.
-
yess balls and balls of dust..i suggest u compress it from the small side of the vents..so if the left vent spray it from the most left part of the vent and if on the right vent spray it from the most right of the vents do u understand what i mean..?and try to clean it ever 2-3 weeks 1time..the cleaner it goes the better the suction is..
-
No I dont really understand. Can you be a little more precise please?
-
compress the air from the back vents and what ive said is that blow the air from the most LEFT of the LEFT VENTS and for the RIGHT the most RIGHT VENTS..hmm how to say your g73 back vents are like a triangle shape rite..?now blow it from the smallest part..

why would you blow air INTO the exhaust ?
-
Well I just did blow INTO and out through the access panel and temps have dropped to 53-55 where they were siting around 60-70 on idle. The big bits of fluff that came out were frightning!
Obviously has helped and I'm a very happy customer right now. Well worth doing. -
well nice to hear that so problem solved hehehe

Access panel is the bottom service panel right ? used to access most of the ram and the HDDs ?
-
Yup thats the one!
-
You open the access panel below the laptop and blow compressed air INTO that area?
Sorry if the question seemed moronic...this is my first expensive laptop and I want to make sure I take care of it properly. -
It could probably be done, but I highly doubt it will be as effective. Ultimately, dismantling the laptop will be the best way.
-
hi guys,
I want to know what kind of equipment u use to pullout dust from inside the vents and how should clean dusts near speakers? Lastly, there is also a lot of dust on the top of g73jh as well m not using any normal cloth in fear of getting scratches so what material will be the best to clean the laptop from top n sides?.
Many thanks in advance. -

multiple threads answer this -
What do you mean probably, aren't the people in this thread doing that exact method or am I mistaken?
-
I thought that people were blowing compressed air into the exhaust vents at the very back of the notebook...unless I'm reading this wrong?
-
after 5 months.... it did build a lot of dust on vents... when i did my repaste... i had the chance of cleaning it... well now its clean and probably clean it again by disassembling it all rather doing other stuffs... thats probably the best way to clean it perfectly....
-
Can I just blow air directly into the vents without taking the laptop apart? I don't trust myself in taking it apart and I wanted to know if it would damage the laptop?
-
I would at least do a partial dismantle so you can at least hold the fans still when using compressed air.
-
i just spray some air around the rearmost ports and fans every few months. Comp has been on for about 6hours straight and idle temps are holding fast at 55
-
Having repasted my GPU after 6 months of use I can tell you with absolute 100% certainty that blowing compressed air into the rear exhausts vents does not "clean" your machine. The only way to properly clean a G73 is to dismantle it.
-
Yep, you gotta really take out the heatsink and blow it into the individual bar thingies at the end, but blowing into the fan is sufficient. I've done the fan thing once a month w/ my M15x which is somewhate similar and my temps max out at 64C during gaming @ stock. Blowing the exhaust is better than nothing and I think it's more efficient in terms of amount of time taken to the amount of stuff blown out.
-
I can see it as useful for removing dust (only a small portion of it though) from the heatsinks and helping slightly with improving the cooling, but you just end up moving the dust to a different part of your laptop. Sure would be nice if we could just pop of an access panel or even the keyboard and get access to the fans so we could really clean it out.

55C =/= Good Idle Temp!!!
I don't know where people get this idea but it's not good. -
After 6 hours of standard use, lots of firefox tabs, music etc, thats not good? what exactly IS good then?
-
Can't really get temps lower than that unless you manually downclock the card for idle use, seems fine to me.
-
Yeah, the card idles between 50-60, depending on which temperature reading you're looking at. MemIO tends to be 6-8 degrees higher, which has been true on every g73 I've had...

If you keep the vents blown out, you will not get a large build up of crud in you fans and heat sinks. I blow mine out about once a week or more and I get dust out every time.
Is taking the computer apart to clean the fans and heatsinks better , yeah it would be, but most do not want to take there computers apart every time they have to clean off the fans. And if you keep it blown out then you will not get the build up of the crud on your fan blades and heat sink fins.
And after a year or so if it does not plug up then would be a good time to take the Notebook apart and give it a good cleaning.
Also as it is stated if you take the Notebook apart you will void your warranty, I do not want to do this at this time. After a year when the warranty goes out then it will not matter and you can take it apart and clean the Notebook when you wish.
Also to clean the outside of my NoteBook I have been using the Microfiber cloth and the Eye Glasses cleaner that does not have harsh chemicals in it. This is the cleaner that you can use on coated lens that most have in our glasses. I get it at Wal-Mart and it does not cost much at all.
I have been using this for about 5 months now and it has not done any damage to the outside surface of my Notebook. It is staying black without fading . I also use it to clean my Monitor as it does not streak and does not damage the surface.
I do not use any other cleaners other than the glasses cleaning chem and or water .
In the past I have seen the screens on the Flat Panel monitors clouded up from using strong glass cleaners. -
If you have repasted well, it should be sitting around 47C - 50C.
-
Which clockspeeds are you on than ?
I get 47C-50C when im downclocked to 405 x 1000 MHz (usin the 93vbios) -
hey been following this thread for about a day now, i opened up my access panel and blew some compressed airthrough the vents and got a fair amount of dust bunnies however this only tend to work for the right vent(with the computer screen facing towards you) since it is close to the access panel i can just blow the dust out from there, but the problem is the right fan, how should i go about cleaning this with the compressed air?
