I ride public transportation to school and I was wondering if it would be safe for me to use my G73JH on the bus? I know that severe vibrations could possibly damage mechanical hard drives but I'll be placing it on my lap and the jolts on the bus are pretty moderate for the most part. Thanks.

Well I certainly can't think of any reason that it would cause a problem. I believe people use laptops on buses all the time. The only thing I would caution you about is letting it slide down your lap and rest against the seat in front of you. If you block the exhaust ports it will overheat and shut down in a very short amount of time. I've let my son use mine in the car many times and that's the only thing he's ever done to cause a problem. Of course, with a G73, you won't be using it on any very long rides unless you've got a place to plug it in. ;)

I think if you just plan on reading stuff /video /document is fine (I use my 15.6" dv6z on subway everyday to school ), plenty of heat and fan noise if you decide to game which is kind of ... imo :)

Regarding your worry about HDD, most contemporary laptop should carry some kind of freefall/vibrate sensor, and it stop the HDD when it sense that. So check if the driver/software available on your laptop model.

Yeah it should be fine on the bus...but I couldn't imagine lugging my 9 lb G73 beast around haha. I tried using it on my lap during a road trip and my thighs got irritated rather quickly 0_o

Thanks for putting my worries to rest guys. I was a bit apprehensive because I messed up an old iPod video (the one with a mechanical hard drive) after running with it several years ago.
