I recently purchased a G73JH-B1. I replaced the 500gb with a 256gb SSD. I didn't notice this until last night but I hear a very very faint high pitch sound. I am not sure if this is coming from the laptop or from the newly installed SSD. I had the A1 model previously but I had to exchange it. I do not remember the A1 having any high pitched sound but then again I barely used it.

Anyone notice any high pitched sound on theirs?

    Thanks!

The G73 does have a high pitched whine when running on battery. If it is plugged in it goes away. You have to be in a really quiet space to hear it. SSD users are more prone to notice it since their machines do not generate any HDD thrashing noise.

I had been working with Gary Key in the past to troubleshoot the issue, but alas it appears that ASUS is moving on.

My understanding is that it is caused by power management throttling in one of the chips that's causing a transistor to hum... at least that is what I recall from the discussion.

I see. So I should consider this as normal then? One thing I will do when I get home is completely disconnect the SSD and see if I still hear a hitch pitch hum.
