Couldn't believe this, the cable must have shifted when I put the hinge cover on and a screw pinched off about a 1/2 dozen of the wires when I secured the back. G73jh A1
I don't suppose I can order that cable anywhere? Or am I looking at a RMA?

Oh bummer, very important to keep the cables attached to the black sticky tape to prevent this happening.
You probably could repair each wire by sheathing each cable down and reattaching it using some thin bullet clips and clamping each end etc im sure there is some slack there for you to be able to do this. I would.
Your best bet otherwise is trying AsusParts here.
I had a quick look and couldn't see the part you need. Best bet is to drop them an email to make sure they send you the right part. You will need to dissassemble the screen to get to it me thinks. -
I'll probably take a shot at re-connecting the wires. The tape had pulled loose and I didn't even see the cable out of place.
I didn't see the cable at the site either but thanks for the link. I'll keep searching. -
If you had the BB version I would just say replace the screen to 1080P but you have the A1 -
Here's an alternative for getting one: ASUS Laptop Part: 1422-00PQ0AS - G73 series (G73JH, G73JW) lcd cable for 17.3" LED displays
They are out of stock and a bit expensive but they might be able to get their hands on more.
@Dallers: I would say replace the screen by a matte 1080p one.

It seems that all the online retailers for that part number are out of stock. I'm going to ping the guys at Xotic and see if I can't get one through them. Worst case scenario is a RMA. (providing fixing the wires doesn't work of course)

ya I'm just hoping there isn't collateral damage from the wires getting clipped. The power brick was flashing blue and there is no power getting to the unit now.
I'm cautiously optimistic that it's one of the wires in the ribbon as I did see the unit power fans and HDD after the wires got clipped and the then the whole unit shut down when I touched the cable. -
you know, those wires look a lot bigger in the photo. Once I got to looking at them I realized they are actually no bigger than a human hair.
No luck in finding connecters that small so far so I'm going to see if I can't get the cable replaced. -

Same thing happened to me, had to rma mine. I was told I would have to pay since it was my fault but they never did charge me.
There is no way you can splice the wires back together unless you have a microscope and really tiny hands. Just stripping the wires is almost impossible without breaking them. -
Old trick I learned building stuff with phone cords: get a lighter if you can't strip cables down. A small amount of heat will melt the sheathing away quickly.
