Hi guys, I'm getting close to pulling the trigger on a G73 (probably SW), but I have some questions.
I like the stock G73, so I'm not 100% sure if I want to buy from a shop like xoticpc (I'm sure they're great guys, just don't need the customization). A local shop has the G73 for a competative price, but I'm not sure about the warranty.
The local shop says 2 year limited warranty, and additional warranty is quite high.
Xoticpc shows 2 year global warranty and 1 year accidental, with bumping it to 3 year NA warranty for $90.
Is it possible to buy this coverage from Asus directly? I poked around a bit on the Asus site, but couldn't tell.
I'll likely go with the local shop, since that way I don't have to risk paying duty, and if I'm going to spend the money anyways, I might as well get in-store replacement.
Any insight welcome
Edit: Forgot to mention that I'm in Canada

@Falross: XoticPC can offer it to you at stock configurations. You just don't need to customize anything when placing your order on their website. Asus G series comes with the default 2 year global warranty and XoticPC follows that, while other resellers try to lower down the total cost by making 2 years to only a year. Not only this warranty duration, but also on the hardware specs and included stuff on the package are either downgraded or removed, just for the sake of lowering down the cost.
If you're planning to get your beast, make sure you have a copy of the hardware specs/freebies and other features before you drop by to your local reseller, to make sure you're getting what you paid for. -
It seems after doing some more research that if I take shipping into account, it seems my local shop (memory express) seems to be pretty competitive for price.
I'm also debating the 3 year warranty, but who knows. I'll likely wait a bit longer. -
Everything I've seen indicates a two year warranty. The first year you also have accidental damage protection if you fill out and submit your warranty info. Small shops will all have this standard unit, I believe. Best Buy had Asus do a custom version with cheaper parts to increase margin. They also reduce the factory warranty to increase the value of the Best Buy warranty. I'm not saying that to rile up the Best Buy employees/fans. It's just facts. It's a business and I don't begrudge them.
I'm just explaining why you find conflicting information on warranty. If you don't buy from Best Buy I believe that you always get 2 years with the first year covering accidental. The Best Buy versions are quite a bit different. Different amount of RAM, HD sizes, screen resolution, and warranty. On the units I've seen, there's a sticker on the box indicating the two year warranty but they may have changed the packaging by now. Stop in your local shop and ask to see the box so you can look it over. -
Check with CanadaComputer (if in Ontario) as they too carry the Beasts.
NCIX also carries it, and will ship to your 'local store' free of charge (you just pick it up there!) -
Extreme-pc.ca is another canadian shop that has them, and they pricematch. Great service there, too.
