    Hi all.

Is anybody playing Watch dogs on the G73JH?, I´m thinking about getting it, but I don´t know if it´s going to be too much for the G73.

I´ve also read that watch dogs performance on ATI cards is awful.

I won´t get it until I know if I will be able to play, at least on low settings...

Thank you very much in advance.

If this chart is correct, you should be able to run moderate settings.

Compare Watch Dogs with My Graphics Cards

Everyone on the forums are complaining about this because the requirements are so high, it's probably just Nvidia and AMD trying to get you to upgrade your system.

I just picked up a g74sx with the 560m 3gb gpu, i'll let you know how it runs for me.

The minspec GPU's (GTX 460/HD 5850) are both about twice as fast as the Mobility 5870 and GTX 560M in the G73JH and G74SX. Just saying.

Well, I tried it (non licit source, but there is no demo...), and I´m surprised. With the 14.6 beta drivers run smooth, I´m playing in medium settings with really decent frame rate. Probably I will raise some settings.

I love this machine, I bought it on 2010 and I can still play pretty much all games in medium/high settings, I won´t get another laptop until Broadwell/DDR4, at least.

    Thank you very much guys.

    Hi Exar,

I have installed watch dogs and updated it. However, after I clicked start game, the screen just went black and there is no sound or animation. At first I thought it requires some time to load, i left it there for more than 10 minutes but nothing happens, I had to Shift Alt Del to close the programme.

I installed using the discs copy, deleted it and download online, tried again, same thing... I am also using a Asus G73JH laptop. Could you give me some pointers? Are there anything I'm missing. Big Thanks!

P/S I tried updating the graphic card and sound card, but it says that it is already up to date (last update in 2009 or 2010).

    Hi Alfred,

Unless I am misreading you, you haven't updated the video or sound drivers since 2010? I presume you are looking at the ASUS website for updates. They stop releasing video, sounds, network etc drivers specific to the laptop about 3 months after release. BIOS and ASUS utilities will go a bit longer, but for the aforementioned components you need to get ones released from the manufacturer.

**Have you ever updated/flashed the vBIOS on your machine? If not, new reference Catalyst video drivers will likely cause crashes on your machine until you do. If that's the case reply and get advice on how to do so safely before updating to Catalyst video drivers as described below!**

The catalyst mobility (video) drivers can be a pain to find, AMD has a horrible website and it is often down, or fails to download. Best to get off guru3d or similar site. Below is a link for the Catalyst 14.6 drivers.

    AMD Catalyst 14.6 Beta Download

(Make sure you download the second option, APU and mobile version)

For the catalyst driver it will most likely install fine over the top of the existing ASUS driver. I'd try that before driver sweeping etc.

It'll be the old video driver stopping it loading, but worth doing sound too. Just google realtek drivers and get off the manufacturer.

Oh, if you have the stock network card in the updates are on atheros website.

    Hi SpicySi,

Your Reply made me have a hope on the issue. You were right! I was looking for updates of the graphic card and sound cards from the website. And I also just right click on the "device manager" menu, and click update. It says the version is the latest... Never updated the BIOS or Asus utilities thou... Worry that it might bricked my machine..

I have never update/flashed the vBios on my machine. And I am really a fairly newbie about this. I am willing to learn, appreciate if you could explain further (if possible step by step :) )

    Thanks

Check this link out, you´ll find pretty much all the answers. If you don´t update the vBIOS you won´t be able to install current drivers.

Actually is piece of cake, it will take you 3 min.

Watch dogs really needs 14.6 beta drivers, hopefully ATI will release an optimized one driver soon. Watch dogs went to black screen also in my computer, and I was running 14.2 drivers...

Sorry for delay in reply. As Exar has posted all the info is in the subtopics in link he posted. The actual vBIOS flashing is in one mentioning fixing "GSOD" which I have linked to below (it is the top one under vBIOS heading).

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus-gaming-notebook-forum/515309-how-fix-your-gsod-blues.html

Less risk in vBIOS flash than BIOS, just be sure to use a clean win32 formatted USB stick, and follow the instructions.

Once that is done successfully simply download the Catalyst beta drivers from the earlier link and install over the top of the ASUS reference ones. Perhaps create a system restore point first to be safe, Windows 7 should do that automatically unless you disabled it,

Good luck, I reckon you'll be pleasantly surprised with the improvement in other games once you are up to date!
