How would I know if my gpu is weak, or bad, etc...? I ran some 3dmark benchmarks and scores were lower than ones that I saw in another thread in these forums. Can someone enlighten me? Should I take it back to the store? The laptop is brand new, so I still can return it to the store.

What kind of scores are you getting and what benchmarks are you running?

How much lower? What drivers were you using? What power settings was the card on?

If it's within 10-20% of the numbers you generally see, then you're good.

    Weak??? sure???

I run everything at max setting at 1080p. No much hardware can do that easily , even consoles run game a 720p (or lower) and do upscaling to render at 1080p.

Everything with stock driver and (still) bios 206.

How much of a difference are we talking about?
    What benchmarks did you run?
We need a little more info to help.

Its giving me a 3dmark score: P7158 GPU Score: 6442 and CPU Score: 10731.
Power option is set to high performance and i'm using 10.5 Catalyst drivers, but with stock drivers numbers were almost the same. This computer is only a week old, and since I started using it I noticed some games were being a little sluggish.

Go back to stock drivers. People still have problems with 10.5 (me included)

I wish that was the problem, I ran the test with stock drivers and came up the same, then I installed the 10.5 drivers but it didnt change one bit. If there's no solution then I'll return it to the store tonight, It's an G73JH-X3.

Try perform a clean install or uninstall all unnecessary bloatware from your system if you haven't done so already. Some of the Asus crapware can be resource hogs and affect your system's overall performance.

I feel like every X3 model from Best Buy came with problems. My A1 came with no problems at all (features in signature) from May shipment. Bought on GenTech. Take it to store and replace it for a new one.

    Best

2 reasons why a score would be weaker
    1. you forgot to enable power4gear for full performance. press fn+space
    2. you changed the default settings in 3dmark
    3. keep in mind that 3dmark vantage is not the same as 3dmark 06

Thanks for all replies. Yes, it was on High Performance. I tried it on High Performance and Power4Gear High Performance and it was all the same, the one thing I found is that I can only achieve the scores that this computer stock reaches, by setting the clocks to 800x1100. Anyways, its a new computer so theres not too much files in it, i'll just return it just to be safe, i'll get another one of course!

that's really not bad...keep in mind most of the benchmarks are significantly overclocked, or at least mine was.

Happy to say I got higher scores! Also one thing that I noticed was that on one of the Feature Tests on the malfunctioning G73JH there was some lines going up and down on the screen, I thought those were normal, but now I see that those just showed that the gpu was bad.
