Besides the over heating issues it has which can be controlled with a repaste and external cooling systems, anything else i should know about this machine? Also what are the best geforce drivers out there that can control high temp?

I've had G51 for about 7 months and know pretty much about everything (pros and cons). The other cons are:

    1) Slight flex/wobble of the keyboard.
    2) Infrared (IR) windows by the WiFi switch actually doesn't have the actual IR diode in it, so forget about using IR remote. This might not be a con for some.
    3) Microphone is HORRENDOUS. Speakers are also of pretty bad quality, but microphone exceptionally sucks. Never have seen any worse mic than this.
    4) Keyboard doesn't have a separate "Insert" key. This is a big con for me as a developer because I use Ctrl+Insert to copy from Linux terminal, so I had to reassign the key to NumLock. This might not be a con for others.

That's about it. BTW, some people are saying that their G51 overheats, while it's really not. Talking about GPU temps, the fan actually ramps up to medium (audible) at 89 ะก. Then, after temperature reaches 98 C, the fan ramps up even more to reach the highest RPM. So, this laptop was clearly designed to go up to 99 - 100 C because that's when the fan actually goes full speed. My GPU goes up to 95 C when gaming (Crysis). With other games it usually goes only to 90-91 C and that's in 21 C room. I could reach 99 C with Furmak only and that's when I noticed that only at 98 C the fan goes full speed.

Now, when temperature goes to 110 C, that's a different thing: clearly overheating and probably due to poor quality of thermal paste application.

My G51VX-RX05 has a bad touchpad. I had to disable the left mouse button in the Synaptic drivers.

Slight flex on the keyboard, but it is certainly more rigid than the G50V's. Infinitely better designed keyboard as well.

The chassis is still a finger print magnet as is the rubber pad for wrists to rest upon. Expect to do a lot of cleaning here as well as the general top assembly which can also be a dust magnet.

As has been touched on, there is no Ir diode though the chipset is there. I ended up disabling the driver as it was serving no purpose. I find it curious that my G50V had the diode but the G51 does not.

As has been pointed out, the microphone is horrendous. It's not even worth mentioning. Get an external mic or a headset and forget the one on the laptop even exist.

The speakers are ok, but don't expect to much of them. They're enough to get the job done and no more than that.

The Keyboard shares NumLk with the ScrlLk. This might not be problematic for you but it required me to do significant hot key remapping across a vast number of programs.

Enable PowerMizer. You'll be happy you did.

Hey, Papa Midnight, I'm wondering about our microphone issue: Do you think there's a problem with the microphone itself or a preamp circuitry? I posted a thread about replacing mic, but no one responded to it. I was trying to gather some info about mic and see if anyone already replaced their condenser microphone itself but problem didn't go away (which would imply faulty pre-amp).
