Hey sexy peeps, just wanted to know the difference between the two since im considering on buying one or grabbin the g53. Thanks

JH = 5870M amd
JW = 460M nvidia
Get the JW to save yourself headaches regarding GPU temps and outdated audio software, plus having to do firmware updates. -
Oh kool, should i get the regular G53JW-A1 model or the 3d one?Is 3d vision really important to have now for future proofing or what? Thanks

If you want a better video card get Jh, but you need to update some firmwares and bios update to use it properly. Jw will give you less stress from Jh.

stick to the G73JW with a 1080p FHD screen. The screens are better quality than the current ones on the 900p models.

The G53JW is likely the BIGGEST 15" laptop ever made. It's actually BIGGER than MOST 17" laptops. It's only 1 inch smaller diagonally than the 17"
For 3D Gaming, it's still in it's infancy if it will ever take off. 3D Vision is not widely supported. The current Nvidia method is using 2 images imposed on one another, that means the GPU has to render 2 of the same image. This reduces performance A LOT. To compensate, you will have lower performance AND you will have a decrease in quality image. Some who like 3D, apparently don't mind low framerate and lower quality image. The current method on small 15" and 17" screen would cause your eyes to strain regardless if you get nauseaus or get a headache, which is also possible.
IMO, just go with the G73JW. For G53JW, being a whopping 1" diagonally smaller, you get an inferior LCD, inferior cooling, slightly less performance, and you don't get the nice rubberized casing, the G53JW is just plastic. And the battery life on the 15" isn't better either... -
Either get the G53JW or the G73JW-3D
G53-3D has bad resolution and the G73JW's aren't worth it if you take your laptop to school/work, unless it's the 3-D version, so you have no choice in the matter (high def.) -
Yeah I think you're right about the g53jw, i was watching the review made by xoticpc about the finish on the casing and he mentioned about oils from our hands/fingers showin and when you try and clean or rub it it will actually make it worse (same issue on g51/g60 rubberize pad wrist where fingerprints don't show but the oils leave a mark which is annoying n dirty). The g73jw doesn't have this issue on the outer casing am i right?
I know that you can't open the underpanel of the g53jw nomore instead you need to take out the screws on the front where the keyboard lies to access the interior to upgrade/add ram/2ndhdd, can i open it on the g73jw?
One more thing, I tested a g73jh-bestbuy version back in May of this year and I actually liked it, is everything the same with g73jh and g73jw (design,controls, the one horizontal blue led light under the monitor, casing finish, touchpad etc..)?
Are the only 2 difference between g73jh vs g73jw are 720qm -740qm cpu and ati 5870HD to gtx 460m??
Thanks
Why should i get the g73jw 3d version? Is 3d really recommended now? And why is it not worth taking it to school or work if it's not the 3d model? Can you elaborate more pls
Thanks -
The 3D panel has a native refresh rate of 120Hz, which I would think would be nice for when you use the unit / game in non-3D.
-
Though what I'm really hoping is if that panel can be ordered as a part and fit on a JH-A1. That would be the best of both worlds for me. -
In the new games, I do not get 120 FPS, but around 40-55 FPS and in these situations, 120 hz has no benefit. So unless the user is planning to play 5-10 year old DX9 or older games all the time, I wouldn't consider it to be a good reason to buy.
- Even new DX9 games I get less than 60 FPS on average
The only game I can think of, and upcoming game would be Batman AA and with that with vSync that would solve the issue completely. Even the old HF2 isn't an issue since there is now HD mods that would bring down the framerate considerably. The new HD mod is 64 bit only since texture are so massive.
Below benchmarks show, how irrelevant 120 hz LCD is for current games on a GTX 460M or HD5870M.
Dirt 2 Ultra Settings no AA
Bad Company 2, used Fraps
Crysis Warhead
Ken has video of a massive OC on GTX 460M on the G73JW 820/1640/1420. I don't have camera, so I can only post benchmark. I'll use the same settings he used.
- But I can say while playing the same scene as he did, I was averaging between 38-60 FPS, avg 45. The benchmark has tons more explosions than in that scene.
