Just curious with all the negative G73 posts, what owners think of the Envy 17? I'll likely by purchasing one of these two notebooks in the next couple weeks, and I'm leaning towards the HP. Asides from the price, it seems the Envy 17 has:
-fewer end user issues (or less vocal/educated users?)
-better connectivity and external monitor support (USB 3.0, eSATA, Eyefinity)
-rigid all metal case
The one thing I feel the G73 has over the Envy is the killer cooling system, so is the G73 going to have better long term reliability? But now threads are popping up about GPU heating issues? Just wanted to see what you all think
thanks

Two biggest difference between Evy 17 and G73jh
Envy 17 will have eyefinity
Stock G73jh offers a lot more power than Envy 17 which gets expensive with upgrades.
Depends on what you want, I don't these two notebooks are completely interchangeable. G73 is more game/performance whereas Envy 17 is a good balance of thin/stylish with great connectivity, eyefinity and powerful. -
I think that if you honestly think that the HP's are trouble-free, you haven't been digging enough. I was down to an HP and the G73 and based on price, features and ASUS' warranty I went with them. I know multiple people that are unhappy HP owners, and while you can find that in every market, to go in thinking there are no issues with a product this complex is going in blind.

I don't often think about HP, but when I do, I think they should stick to printers.
Stay thirsty, my friends. -
I had a HP laptop once, and lasted 1 day. When I went thru the hardware inspection, I discovered they changed the video ram to slower ram and underclocked the stock nvidia settings, with no notification that they did this anywhere in their literature. I returned it, and got a P-6860.

Going on past ENVY laptop releases expect the first generation ENVY 17 to run very hot.
HP is on my poop list, I've ben burned to many times by them.
If you can wait for reviews for the HP to see how it performs. -
Don't know that much about Canon, except for their business printers, which are expensive, but durable. Epson printers waste ink and if you don't refill the consumables yourself, their expensive and no one wants to recycle them. Lexmark printers are cheaper, as is their ink, but there is concern about their longevity. HP printers use to be some of the best printers on the market, I guess that's history. Samsung and Brother printers, don't know much about them.
Not like it use to be. In the old days you might replace the head when you buy new ribbons. Today, some printers are so inexpensive, that when the printer runs out of ink, it's cheaper to throw it away and get a new printer. -
Thanks for the input. Looks like HP has had their fair share of issues with the Envy notebooks. Also looks like past impressions of HP are not completely applicable to the Envy considering the VoodooPC engineering that has gone into these product. I really wish the G73 was a little more balanced with USB 3.O or eSATA.

My first impression; it looks like the hp is built well with its construction. But not glorious because of its confine space and the placement of the battery lead me to believe it has terrible cooling. Not to mention its really expensive.
I agree that g73 is lackluster in ports. -
HP has fewer end user issues cause it just came out lol
but oddly enough the first NBR user to get the envy 17 found his laptop is a lemon and he's getting a replacement lol -
Happy owner of a HP Color LaserJet CP2025dn
What do G73 owners think on HP's Envy 17?
