I dont have a G73, but if you do a fresh install, besides the notebook's actual drivers, you should install AVG free, peerblock, pidgin, firefox, superantispyware, malwarebytes antimalware, winamp, and SC2 :p Also, for work, install MS Office or openoffice. GL HF

Is your system stable while Gaming? (and other media features) on bios 211, vbios 93 oc (clocks used? default ones?) ati 10.8??

I am still on stock bios 206, stock vbios, stock ati 9. or 8. something...
I am not experiencing any problems while gaming or any other activity (crysis, crysis warhead, fear 2, alien swarm, left 4 dead 2, the witcher)
Hence if I could enhance my gaming by gaining more FPS, more performance then why not?? ;-)

It's just that I try to avoid the "Flashing" process although i've read the flashing process here in this forum a hundred times and know what is to be done and what is to be avoided.. still... i try to "flash" only if worthwhile changes are to be gained. (especially when it comes to Gaming)

    Is it worth upgrading?
Any graphical enhancements you have noticed (noticeable higher FPS? (especially in crysis warhead while playing on high def, 'enthusiast' settings, where FPS drops sharply sometimes) other matters?)

By the way my 3dmark06 on stock 206, stock everything is around ~12,000-12,500
And my temps. although I havent really monitored them are normal even, cooler than normal.. (That's how the laptop "feels") And fans run very "normally", mostly not lousy at all.

Thank you loads for your feedback

BIOS 209, vBIOS v93, ATI 10.8, Microsoft Security Essentials, Steam, Intel Rapid Storage Technology, Intel Chipset Driver (go to the Asus site for this one), ATK package, Synaptics drivers, Realtek Audio Drivers, Just Cause 2, STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl, Firefox 3.6, Crysis, Crysis Warhead, Flash Plugin...might be some more, but I'm not on the G73 right now so I can't check.

I think I got them all anyway. I did have Furmark on there for a little while for testing purposes, but I uninstalled it. Have the installer in my Downloads folder anyway.

These are the ONLY things I have installed on there. None of that unnecessary OEM stuff.

Microsoft Security Essentials, Steam, Sony Vegas, AIM, FRAPS, HWMonitor, GPUZ/CPUZ, HWiNFO32, tons more crap and only the essential drivers and stuff, not all the fluff Asus packs into the G73. The rest is just programs and stuff I use on a regular basis and of course all my games. I have BIOS 211, vBIOS v93, Catalyst 10.8 which works fantastically and as far as games go, here's my meager list: http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/3356/steamgames.png

Well I just had to do a fresh install actually so I am going from a maxed out 500gb drive to the essentials.

In about a week when I feel I have everything I use normally I will make a core backup image for restore should I ever have to do a fresh install again.

Here is the stuff I did so far.

    > Updated the GPU drivers to 10.9
    > Firefox
    > Irfanview
    > Foxit Reader
    > Adobe Flash
    > .Net Framework
    > Direct X Updates
    > Daemon Tools Lite
    > Photoshop
    > Winamp
    > Songbird
    > CCCP
    > VLC Player
    > Winrar

    On the to do list:

    > FRAPS
    > Nero Burning Rom
    > Uniextract
    > HJ Split
    > DVD Flick

    +more to list later.

Has anyone repartitioned their drive to a one size format? instead of having 4 partitions let say have 3 and have the partition that hold's the os bigger? I am thinking about using g-parted and doing so.

does anyone have a tut or a video they can point me out to so i can partition my drive?

well since i have the Elitebook, my G73 mainly sits and plays my media lol

    but my machine:

    C: System 16 (Win 2k) 8GB
    D: System 32 (Win XP) 25GB
    E: System 64 (Win 7 Pro) 80GB
    F: Pagefile (24GB) (disc 2)

(Note C/D/F are hidden in win 7 - E/F are hidden in XP - Everything else is hidden from Win 2k)

    N: Applications: 200G
    R: Games 100G

    Disc 2 is just

    X: Everquest 2 (25G)
T: Music (200G) - All my old DJ vinyls :D
    Z: Recorded TV (200G)

sizes are guestimates, as i cba getting out of bed lol.

My games list is quite immense, but recent ones are on steam, LfD LfD2 etc, all COD, all BF.

I also have some old skool games like carmageddon, Discworld 2, Colonisation (DOS version) and such running in XP.

    Applications, 3DS Max EDU edition V9 & 2011
    Adobe CS5 Teacher Edition
    Office 2007

Yes i am allowed to be called eccentric :p

So far i partitioned my Win 7 os space with 300 gb.

Next I partitioned more space about 30 gb for my Linux distro and another 1 gb for cache space, and the rest of the 80 so gb I set it as ntfs for my music movies pic's.

I still have another 465gb space left, for god knows what lol
