An ssd is a "solid state drive" It is a storage drive that's consisted of flash memory.
Baseline: Quicker/Nimbler/Faster than a traditional spinning hdd. More energy efficient and much more durable. Also more expensive.

Also: If you are looking to purchase an ssd be wary of the cheaper ones. Remember that you get what you pay for. Make sure it supports TRIM (Google it). It is not entirely necessary that you open a thread based upon general topic questions. It would be better if you did your own personal research and then came here for refinement and clarification. -
in short:
extremely fast hard drive.
Faster transfer, write and read rate, like you can open programs a lot faster.
Small volume, EXPENSIVE (extremely), very short life span (last probably 2 years or 3 years), cheaper ones may lose data if the power supply got cut off. -
Life span is much longer than traditional hdds. It doesn't make sense to only last 2 or 3 years. An investment of 200 dollars for a mere 60gb ssd sounds pretty darn silly to me. I'd estimate around a hundred years for a home user. Yeah. 100.

but you didnt tell me if i can run it on my laptop , g72gx-rbbx05 .
and thanks for the replys -
LOL "expert" expert is a exclusion of expert... anyways you should beable to have it in any notebook just make sure its sata not ide ok? Yeah please research then come here.. we arent teachers you know!

i am saying that because my fd is obsessed with ssd and somehow 3 of his never made it through the 3rd year of usage.
the more expensive one is already halving the reading/writing speed after 3 years -
okay thanks for the help
-
Most likely because it does not support TRIM.

yup... no TRIM is killer.. anyways anyone know how TRIM works? My ssd's becomming slower and its irritating..
What is SSD ?
