I've seen specs listing the G73JH at 7.5 lbs (best buy) to 8.5 lbs (Asus). Exactly how much does the G73JH weigh???

I know you asked exactly, but it's just a guess that Best Buy is reporting without battery and maybe Asus is with battery? I am at work so I can't check it right now.

If you could please check for me when you get home, that'd would be much appreciated. Newegg also lists 8lbs.

I don't have a postage scale at home (it's at work, lol) so my bathroom scale said 8.2 lbs the first time and 8.0 lbs the second, cut the difference I'd say it's about 8.1 lbs :p And yes I weighed it while I was holding it and then without so hopefully it would be as close as I could get with a bathroom scale. It's fairly accurate as I can see the difference before and after I poop.

There's an accuracy I didn't need to know.

Now that I know this, am I the only one who thought of Man vs Food? The pain that guy must go through the next morning lowering one, makes me think no matter what the outcome of the episode, really, food won.

Yes on the battery, but actually I have 2x640gb drives but I'm sure they are about the same weight.

The BB version does not have the 2nd HDD and stuff last I checked unless they have a new model so that can also add to a weight difference.

while i'm seriously considering buying the G73JH model @ BB, the only thing that's putting me off is its actual weight. I mean don't you agree with the fact that this fat-a$$ monster is a royal pain to drag around?!
aside of that, Its a really tempting deal.

That's the only thing putting me off as well. But I just bought a GX640 because it suposedly weighs only 5.9lbs but inactuality weighs around 7lbs with battery. It also runs hot when gaming so I'll have to use a laptop cooler that will weigh at least 1lbs+. So a GX640 + laptop cooler = G73Jh no laptop cooler since it supposedly runs very cool.

thanks for the great enlightenment! but seriously 7lbs WITH the battery. I assume you using a 9-cell battery?
the GX640 is a strong contender on my table too besides the GH73H. I think i'm this close to buying it since it seems to be getting Overwhelming awesome feedback.
but the cooler thing seems alittle bit luxurious :p how much time do you spend playing?

Well, if you want to game on your lap, the G73JH's arrangement of air intakes probably does the job.

If I was 3 FT tall or 1.5 Meters tall with arms too weak to lift 8 lbs, then I would agree.

Since that is not the case for majority of people, I have to disagree with you.

There's nothing wrong with the GX640. 12k+ in 3dMark06 so very close to performance of G73Jh. If you don't game on your lap like I do, then I'd wholeheartedly recommend GX640 if you want something smaller and lighter.

I'm thinking about switching over to Asus because I'd rather have a cooler and quieter system than 1lb lighter system. The size is putting me off though. I used to have the P7805u and didn't want go 17" again.

lol I'm actually 5'5'' and I mean relatively 8 lbs are not as convenient to deal with as other lighter weights. its not a matter of physical masculinity like you put it...hell, I can happily lift a 120 lbs chick on my lap all the night long. Gotta agree with me on that one though.

dude, its called a LAPtop its meant to rest on your lap. I know the G73HJ has an awesome ventilation system. Whats getting me on cold feet is the fact that its my first laptop and i'm not sure if its convenient to grab it to Work everyday...

p.s. one up to the GH73 for it has the most SEXY laptop design i have ever laid eyes upon!

This is a desktop replacement. It is not light. I carry a 13" Macbook for work but use the G73 for all my gaming needs. It sits on a desk or stand, never on my lap. It's quite heavy to fly with and I do so only infrequently. When driving (under 300 miles each way) for work I carry both.

    Cheers,

This laptop is light for a desktop replacement and on the heavy side compared to other 15 inch laptops. It's only a bit heavier than my 15.4 inch laptop with a 9 cell battery, but it is HUGE.
