Sorry for my ignorance but I did searched in forum for information relating to PCH maximum but couldn't find. So here is my question.

Today I ran furmark for half hour ... the gpu maxes out at 82 C. So I am ok with that. But the sensors shows my intel PCH temperature touching about 88 C.

Is is ok ... also I am not sure what exactly is this temperature for. The CPU cores were all well below 70 C. Should I be worried? What should be the maximum threshold for this.

Appreciate all the help and inputs we get in the forum.

Doesn't sound like anything to worry about.

The Platform Controller Hub (PCH) is provided by the chipset, and the chipset chip has lots of functionality so it will be warm when in use.

If you do your own repaste(s), make sure the chipset chip's thermal pad is in-place during reassembly!

Thanks for the quick reply ... Do you an idea about the threshold temp to make me start worrying ... i dont want to open the unit yet ... since the GPU is holding strong.

I too looked for the threshold temp a while back when I noticed my PCH temp. I never really found a definitive answer, however im assuming that since the threshold temp for the CPU is 100C, the PCH temp should be right around there too. Not spouting this as fact, just speculation.

Yeah it's hard to find a definitive answer since it's adjustable via firmware.

I agree 100C is a good warning point, especially if it keeps climbing.

There should be an OS warning (probably via BSOD) before critical temp is reached. Haven't heard of a chipset overheat yet... :)

Well, the notebookreview.net guys found their test units to hit around 90 on GPU, and 80-ish for the other temperature readings... for both the jh and jw, and I'd like to assume that they got sent "good" units. If you're in that range, you're probably safe.
