Just curious, since the reviews seem to differ absurdly on this one aspect, from being described as "fantastic" by some to literally "one of the worst ever" by others.

Is this just, as I suspect, a problem with some (early/pre-release?) models having been shipped with defective keyboards? If not, then what in the world is causing reviewers to disagree so drastically about a same product?

What have been your experiences with the G73 keyboard?

Using the JW keyboard, liking it so far. I do miss keys but I might just be adjusting to a laptop keyboard. But its great so far

Got my JH this summer. Keyboard lag and touchpad issues are brutal. Hit or miss with these units. All in all happy with my purchase though. I'm used to the keyboard lag.

my keyboard does miss keys, but i am a horrible typer. i notice it mostly when working in a router's CLI (Network Engineer), but for the most part, I have adapted to it, and get along nicely even with the issue.

I'm one of the lucky few without the keyboard issue, as far as a keyboard goes I think it's nice, comfortable and well, I think it works fine. Backlight is nice too and looks great in the dark, but yeah I've had no trouble typing on the G73.

I didn't have any problems with the keyboard or touchpad as well. It's a bit to small for me, I got used to my P7085u. It seemed to have a larger keyboard to me. Then again, maybe not.

I don't have any problems with the keyboard and touchpad also. It took me awhile to get used to it compared to my old gateway 6860fx.

Those who have the lagged keyboard, does the lag affect gaming or just typing text and stuff? It does sound like a stupid question, but If I get a lagged keyboard and can't game well I don't think I'd "get used to it"..

Nope. Doesn't affect gaming. The keyboard presses in gaming are too deliberate and hard to miss. It only happens when you're typing fast, and you don't really type fast when you game. Maybe if you're a 200APM Starcraft 2 player? But I doubt that'd be an issue either.

i'm hoping that holding down "W" to run in TF2, for example, won't cause my character to stop running all of a sudden because the keyboard stopped responding suddenly (eg. missing keystroke)

"Missed keystrokes" are either keyboard lag when typing fast, or missing the key sure to not hitting it correctly. I have not heard of anyone having a key stop working once the laptop registered the key press. So no worries, your W won't suddenly stop mid-run. :)
