HDtune will show you the SMART health. It will tell you if there any warnings like bad sectors.

how do I repair the damaged sectors? I have a warning in the Reallocated Sector Count, and another warning in the Ultra DMA CRC Error Count. It says "there were communication errors. This may be caused by a damaged cable." Is that bad?

I had similiar errors and mine was in a poor shape the actual health of mine was very poor.

You dont need to fix reallocated sector's it does exactly what it says on the tin is has reallocated the bad sector's. This is normal as long as it is not increasing, mine was increasing daily and reached 3% the day before my SSD arrived and it was running very sluggish.

I saw no BSOD though and BSOD can happen from pretty much anything ranging from hardware to drivers changes and a variety of things such as a program you have installed or the overclocks you have set not being stable.

Have you tried removing the HDD and reattaching it sounds like a loose connection to me if it is the cause of your BSOD.

You cant really repair damaged sectors, the HD with automatically reallocate the data to another part of the disk. This sort of issue may slowly get worse till disk failure. You should start backing up your data now just to be safe.

Ive had a Reallocated sector count on my current hard drive for over a year now, so far its been stable and hasnt increased since.

Do a full Error scan on HDtune overnight to see how bad the damage is.
