So what is a good program to test my Crucial m4 ssd's read/write speeds? I am not sure it is performing up to the speeds that it is advertised at.
Thanks

pmassey31545 Whats the mission sir?
Here ya go! Everybody's doin' it. OK. It's what I use and I have seen several others use it.
-
Awesome, so I ran the test on both my drives and here is what I came up with. My Crucial m4 is running significantly slower than advertised, unless I somehow ran and/or interpreted the test incorrectly. They advertise the read:415MB/s and write:175MB/s. Here is the link to the SSD, Newegg.com - Crucial M4 CT128M4SSD2 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
Combine all this with the fact that the SSD will not cold boot without entering bios & exiting and this little ssd is becoming a pain in the butt.

THat is a big improvment

Does your laptop support SATA III (6Gbps)? If it only supports SATA II (3Gbps) then that may be the problem. Of course I am just 'ballparking' here.
-
What firmware version is your SSD at? LPM could be causing performance issues.
-
I am running firmware 0001 on the crucial so I will work on upgrading it to 0002 today.
As far as it being SATA III compatible... I was told by asus tech support that it both was and wasnt so... Perhaps that may be my handicap. I am running a G53SW-XN1, is there a way to physically check and see if it supports SATA III? -
Be cautious when upgrading the firmware, I heard some lost their data. Firmware 0002 modifies power management but you can always do the same tweak by editing the registry if you wish.
-
It is SATA III. But even looking that up, I saw someone complaining about their ssd stuck in SATAII mode. Perhaps an indication of the issue.
-
So any idea on how I can change my Intel storage device manager to something that will allow for SATA 3 speeds? I am using the mobile express RST driver
-
So I found the previous thread that addresses the same problem and ended up updating my Intel driver to to the mobile 6 series chipset.
Here are the results.
Significant increase, thanks for the help guys.
I will still work on that Firmware update, maybe it will resolve my ssd's random 30-45second freezes... -
Though Windows 7 is supposed to align SSD's properly when formatting, something may have gone wrong with yours, if the firmware does not fix its hanging. Perhaps format the partition table manually.
Not a likely case but its all I can think of. A driver issue sounds more like the culprit. -
The firmware update fixed my freezing issue and it has been fine ever since (few weeks).
-
Well here is what I'm getting after switching to the Standard MS AHCI driver and updating the firmware to 0002. Hopefully it resolves the freezing issue.
Thanks for the info!
Whats a good ssd read/write speed test prog?
