Which issues you had with your G73, especially at the beggining. Explain the issues and how you fixed it (if fixed).

got a slightly loose connection in CD drive but i don't use it much.. slamming it in and restarting it works.. creative drivers could be better.. my main complaint is asus is not doing anything for it.. solve this and i have no issues.

Touchpad: Have had this issue since I got the G73. Seemingly no real fix for now but I disabled the pinch and zoom options and it works for the most part. Waiting for the new BIOS.
BSOD: Issue with the video drivers, reinstalled the drivers and fixed.
Audio Drivers: When I first got the G73 it would freeze when you opened up steam. When I did the clean install I just didn't install the Creative software stuff. Fixed.
And other small issues just fixed by updating the BIOS. I've never gotten a GSOD or heat issues though, luckily. -
is this pool going to help somehow or we are just talking to the wall...
-
What if we have no problems? I guess I am one of the lucky ones but I have none.

Random System Freeze
Issue: Windows hangs-up when the download finish tone is played by DownThemAll (a Mozilla Firefox Plugin), hangs-up when right after I sign-in to Yahoo Messenger or Skype, then finally hangs-up after login to Windows (this is the worst one)
Solution: (credits to DRevan)
Uninstalled stock Realtek Drivers and installed updated Realtek Drivers from Realtek's websiteNo need to uninstall Creative Audigy.
Overheating
Issue: Idle temps have rised after few months due to paste degredation and possible build-up of extreme dust.
Solution: Flashed my bios from 206 to 211. Planning to repaste with ICD7 soon.
Touchpad (synaptics)
Issue: After flashing from 206 to 211, the touchpad acted weird by becoming a four-arrowed cursor and either zooms-in or zooms-out (acting like pinch-zoom), sometimes, the cursor is unresponsive for 2 to 3 seconds.
Solution: Uninstalled my stock Synaptics driver (14.0.10.0) then rebooted, then reinstalled it again, then rebooted.
Screen bleeding
Issue: Very faint brightness on left and right edge of LCD (less than 1/2 cm in width) can be seen when screen is in all-black (by choosing High Contrast Black theme on Personalize)
Solution: I just let it be.
Audio drivers (creative)
Issue: Caused the hang-ups of Windows 7 due to enabling Bass Boost feature. Non-functional CMSS-3D.
Solution: See Random System Freeze solution above. CMSS-3D still useless.
Others (Explain)
Issue: Initially when I first got the beast, the battery LED indicator is working. After 1 month of not using the battery (kept it not-connected and always on AC), the battery LED indicator doesn't work anymore, did everything. I think it's hardware issue.
Solution: Planning to RMA in the near future. -
probably you haven't noticed them -
I have the dreaded crazy touchpad issue which something tells me most people will vote for.
I also have an issue with my left speaker slightly crackling with incredibly high bass. Its not noticeable 95% of the time.
Thankfully never had a freeze, GSOD, overheatting, or any keyboard issues. All BSODs i've had are associated with my own tweaking/troubleshooting. -
My audio problem isn't related to windows hang ups, it's JUST SO NOISY. It's more annoying than my keyboard/track pad problems (but I think I'm the only one with this problem).
Edit: Updated drivers, no problem. -

Others:
C300 Crucial SSD which causes 1 minute freezes from time to time, specially after installing/disintalling large programs, luckily, I had like only 3 of them in two months, I feel lucky since certain people can't use the pc longer than 20 minutes with that driver before getting unsolvable BSOD or freezes... (no solutions, some SSD tweek and much hope for a firmware update, mine seems almost stable anyway)
GAY ATI CCC 10.12, which caused me freezes and reboot, had to figure it was its fault out and reinstall them
POOR Black Value: (not really a laptop problem, but a choice regret) My AUO screen makes me want to go and get a full HD one besides the FPS drop that FHD gaming will cause me... -
Overheating: repaste and all is wonderful
Otherwise no issues that I know of (or care about?) -
Others.
On my G73JH...
1) GSOD when using newer (non-stock) display driver. GSOD occurred (occasionally) on videos only...never happened to me in games. This one's been fixed with new firmware.
2) Lost keyboard lights on BIOS flash. There's now a soft fix for this one, although at the time it happened to me I had to send it in for motherboard replacement.
3) Missed keystrokes when touchpad is enabled in BIOS. Waiting for a fix on this one, but I rarely use the touchpad anyway so I leave it disabled.
*edit* I guess there's a fourth issue...
4) I like it so much that I use it all-day everyday so my desktop PC (which I had to build new after getting the G73 because my desktop had to have at least slightly better specs) is sad, lonely, and collecting dust -
Random Freezing - Had this issue but is fixed. I installed the windows fix in my signature about maybe 2 months ago. Still experience some freezing but I guess it was fixed as microsoft provided updates to windows 7.
Creative issue - Locked my laptop when I first bought it in june 2010 when bass boost is enabled. Eventually, realtek updated to where this doesn't happen anymore. latest drivers fixed this.
Touchpad - ongoing issue
BSOD - only had one. thought I had to rma but a windows start up repair fixed mine. -
Having a 1 sec spike every 20/30 sec.
Insane annoying. Are yet to find a solution - tried most there is. -
explain for the foreigners -
Mine works great. It got the GSOD when I bought it, but I knew it was broken when I bought it. The RMA process was painless and quick. Overall I am very happy. But I didn't pay much either (because it was broken). I repasted, but it wasn't required so don't count that against it.
I would buy one again for $900 or less, but not more, except for the SW, for $1400 that model is pretty good. -
My only problem is intermittent usb functionality. Usb ports would randomly stop working and then the computer would hang during restart or shutdown.
-
Overheating only. And I repasted it.
It may have been prone to GSOD but I never used drivers other than stock before I updated to the new vBIOS.
Other than that, my G73JH has been amazing.
There's been no problems with the Vertex 2. This has honestly been by far the fastest computer I have used in my life. -
This TOUCHPAD! is horrendous! seriously! WHO in the world makes a NOTEBOOK that has a faulty touch-pad .. makes no sense to me at all! ( some ppl say " Who cares, i use a mice " ) maybe it's just me, but when i buy something, i expect that everything works perfectly, and i mean Everything!

Problem: BSOD
Fix:
I didn't update windows 7. If I update my OS I will get BSOD again. Tested and proven on my laptop. I don't know what to update.
Weird? yes it is. -
-
Easy... install SP1 RTM instead. You'll skip a whole lot of updates that way.
-
I had weird freezing for a single day a while back, some of which led to hard resets. I have no idea what it was but it went away after a windows hotfix/update, so I'm blaming windows.
I was lucky and got a non-gsod one, but updated the vbios anyways and it went smoothly. All's well here
