Because personally, I think its hideous. I'm nearing the time when I want to start looking at replacing my main gaming machine, and I REALLY do not like the "fat bottomed" rear venting, rubberized coating, stealth look. I love the look of my G51Jx. Likewise with my G51Vx. Even my original G1S had the glossy faux carbon fiber that looks better.

Been like this for 3 generations now. I would assume the answer
is not in the foreseeable future.
BTW, I don't really mind any of those issues. -
The fat bottomed, rear venting points are a good thing. It's good for ergonomics, and it's one of the best ways for cooling laptops.

Performance gains aside, I love the rubberised look of the G7 laptops. It looks clean, minimalist and professional. Miles ahead of the cheap, plastic-y look of most gaming notebooks. (Alienware and G51 included.)

I would hazard a guess that the majority of consumers in this segment would disagree with you. I wouldn't expect it to change any time soon considering how popular it's been.
Why don't you just get a Clevo or something if you want a basic looking machine? -
Come on man, the flashier a laptop looks - the faster it is, obviously. Just like how racing stripes or flame decals on a car make it go faster!

Fingerprints suck.

Those aren't fingerprints. That's probably grease from your skin.

Toothpaste or baking soda plus water or rubbing alcohol.
-
-
That's exactly what to clean rubber with.

Soft soap should work as well. You just need something that bonds to organic compounds as well as water and soap is meant to do that. I would avoid any organic solvents though, alcohols (just to be safe), acetone or anything stronger is avoid for sure.

I have had luck using diluted dish soap. The grease from your fingers is similar to the grease from food, so it is good at removing it.
Also, the reasons I like the new asus g series laptops are the cool looks and the good warranty -
I love how the G7# laptops look. They look really unique yet simple and sleek. I hated that about Alienware, they rely on flashy LED's and unusual designs to stand out. I don't want a portable lightshow. ASUS didn't do that, instead they went for something that stands out but not in a good way. Everyone who sees my laptop are always impressed.
HOWEVER. While it looks cool, in practice I find it's hard to keep...pristine. The rubber and the palm rests especially turn kind of whitish if you're not careful. I take care of my laptop, dust and clean it every month. Fingerprints become really visible and everyone has oil on their hands, whenever anyone touches the rubber it's pretty much a guaranteed fingerprint fest. I mainly have a problem with the palmrest, it feels nice but it's a pain to maintain. It scratches really easily and even a slightest bit of water wears it down. I've been wishing they would change the finish on it for ages and it looks like they haven't.
Guess that's the price you pay. I've always been more of a fan of aluminum than plastic or rubber. -
I have both the G51 and G53.
There is no way i would pick the G51. The finger prints! The shiny plastic! I can't believe i bought it -
Sorry, the piano gloss / anodized aluminum look just isn't my preferred style. Give me a nice thinkpad (lenovo now) matte, and I'm happy. Rubberized is close enough. -

G73 is the best looking laptop I ever had, I love the stealth look. Its classy, yet showy at the same time.
its very thing/low profile for a laptop. The rubber coating feels good and seems to be highly scratch resistant, also thank god its not glossy. -

I use a mix of 40% RO water and 60% pure isopropyl alcohol, to both sanitize my hands and clean my G74 (except the screen), works great to remove finger prints and leave it like new with no adverse effect till now.
I'm not responsible for any damage to your laptop if you emulate my recipe -
The way the G-series is designed they could very well offer configurations with a 7970M / higher nVidia card.
I mean the laptop is kinda big and thick, and comes very close to the Alienware M17x.
Personally I like the cover of the G74SX the most.
On-topic: they could make the laptop lose some weight or go with a new design that looks sleeker.
Components are gettting smaller and smaller and generating less heat.
So a re-work on the body wouldn't be such a bad idea. -
The G75 is smaller and sleeker.
-
I love the G73's rubberized plastic in terms of feel and looks.
But it just gets so damn dirty no matter what!
Dust etc builds up and seems impossible to remove at times -

I use iKlear for cleaning the exterior surface and the rubber palm rest. It works like magic where my G73 looks new after I clean it with iKlear.

Just a simple mix of rubbing alcohol and water sprayed onto a lint-free cloth should do the trick as well.
When will ASUS lose the rubberized "steath" look?
