Looking for a new gaming rig but don't want to settle for a gtx460m...... when is asus gonna start putting the newer cards in? I messed around on their website and couldnt find anything more powerful than a gtx460m, so my apologies if i missed it. Would think they would have the 6970 or gtx485m by now.... Need a new computer!

In about 1 month G74SX will be released. It will feature GTX 560M. A smaller version, G53SX is also right around the corner. Maybe the same release date as G74. It will also have GTX 560M.

I don`t know if Asus is planning on using the new GTX 580 GPU though. History has it that they don`t really compete with the hardcore gamer laptops like Sager and Alienware. Both of those OEMs have 485M and 6970M inside their laptops.

Well, they did once with the G73JH so they might go at it again if they can offer a good price point. I sure hope so but i don't believe it will be the case.

Asus only chooses GPUs up to a certain price point.

    Isn't the 560 weaker than the 6970 or 485?

Asus push all their high end gamer customers over to Sager/Clevo and Alienware.

They have no announced plans for anything more than a 560, which isn't faster than the 5870 they ran last year.

Still maybe you find the 460/560 is good enough? They should be fast enough for most gamers but half as powerful as 6970/485.

The 560 is only maybe 10% faster than 460 (7% according to a benchmark run with crippled 128bit bus instead of 196 it is capable of).

ASUS gamer laptops run unusually quiet and have good speakers if that is important. They are a little bulky/heavy and the least user servicable.
    Good screens too

I just got rid of an M15x (okay gave it away) with a 460m in it, so I want to get something that is more powerful than what I already had... I had an asus g51 with a gtx260m and i loved that thing and the warranty that it came with. I wish asus would get their rear in gear!

GTX560M is huge disappointment, if the new g74 even had a 470M and a fair price to begin with, I will buy it in a heartbeat.

Seeing how Asus is trying to improve their relations with nVidia, I doubt we'll see a ATI solution anytime soon.

Well, i wouldn't mind a 470m or 570m (if they make one). It's just that Asus went all out in terms of GPU performance with the 5870m on the JH, despite the problems encountered, but now they seem to be reverting to less powerful GPUs. Of course, i don't expect to see a 485m in there considering the price it's at.

They're not really giving me a reason to buy the G74 over my JH if it has only a 560m in it...

Still, i believe the G74 will turn out to be a great laptop none the less, just not enough of an upgrade for me. I will check the reviews and if they are good i'll still end up recommending it to people who are looking for a decent gaming laptop.

The 560m with 2GB will have a faster memory bus, tho I do not know how that translates to performance fps.

"Depending on the used amount of graphics memory, the performance is between a fast GeForce GTX 460M and a Mobility Radeon HD 5870."

    - Notebookcheck.com

The 5870M scores just above it.

Well the memory bus was only 128 bit and had only 1 gb vram. so we dont know the actual performance of it, so dont flame it untill we have it out in the hands.

Remember that ATI use faster memory controllers which means that the 128 bit 1gb Vram does not mean its slower than 192 bit 3gb Vram.

The 460 is strong, but literally half of a 485. Worse than a 6970 too.

I can see wanting to have an upgrade then! For now, looks like 460 it is.

Unfortunately I think only Clevo uses 485s. The person who said Dell does is mistaken...I'd probably buy one were that the case, maybe. (Although the M15x has horrible audio, and I'm nervous about trying another Dell.)
