Hi
I'm just wondering where did you get your G73 from and does your laptop have any of the problems listed in here?
Thanks
-
I got mine (G73jh-A1) from Amazon.com. So far the only problem I have experienced is with GSOD's, but I get around that using the vBios v3 with overdrive set to 705/1100. Of course heat is an issue but I dont get shutdowns, it just runs warm (I'm afraid to take this thing apart to repaste).

Got my A2 on NCIX.com
I was able to pricematch it 50$ lower and I didn't have to pay the 7.5% Quebec provincial tax.
Delivery took 4 days.
My A2 is problem free.
Current Bios is 109 and graphic drivers are Catalyst 10.6
I keep everything at stock settings. -
I got my G73JH-X1 from Newegg.com
Mine runs stable and as i want.
Only had GSOD when setting low GPU clocks on 10.6 & 10.7 but now on stock drivers and GSOD no more when downclocking. Mine runs warm and I am afraid to disassemble it and repaste, too. -
I got my A1 from PowerNotebooks.com in May. It was preloaded with Windows 7 Pro 64 bit, MS Office Pro, and an SSD, repasted, and having the 8 GB of 1333 Ram. It also came with 3 DVDs, Windows 7, Asus Utilities DVD, and the Cyberlink suite DVD for Blueray and burning software.
-
I got mine from Newegg.com, one that came with the free mouse.
-
Newegg ,free mouse also and the only problem I had is keyboard backlighting after bios update .RMA fixed that ,no other problems at all.Great running laptop!!!
-
G73JH-RBBX05 at Cowboom.com for $861 + tax. Only issue I've encountered is the usual Creative driver incompatibility with Steam. No biggie, I've got it working now thanks to Chastity's guide.
When my warranty is up, I'll repaste even though my temps are fine right now. It will increase the longevity of my gpu which I'm all for. -
I got mine from GenTechPC. Great customer service I can say . . .
-
Got mine from Microcenter beginning of August. No issues...yet. Did some baseline benchmarking (temps and 3dmark, pcmark) already for reference.
-
Best Buy. End of July. Has the new V3 AUO LCD. Pretty impressive machine for the price.
-
Bought mine from Best Buy on July 6.
-
1st one from BestBuy, sold to buy HD/BT/BD-ROM version from Microcenter.
No issues with 209 bios and 106 ATI drivers so long as I keep GPU clocked to 705/1100.
Cheers, -
Bought mine from online store materiel.net (France) A1 came with mouse, bag and earphones. no win7 DVD. just ASUS CD. btw manufacturing date April 2010.
Mostly problem free... lock ups that seem to come from GPU changing frequencies dynamically. If I set frequencies manually runs fine on stock drivers. Didn't try ATI drivers above stock yet. Note that it makes no difference whether I underclock or overclock as long as I set something fixed. -
Gentech. No problems, good temps, great buy.
-
G73JH-X3 from Tigerdirect.com awesome customer service, I cant not say the same about the computer GSOD exchanged same problem, returned for refund.
on a side note Asus tech support suck goat balls! -
Got mine from ABT Electronics, at the time they were the only place that had it in stock.
-
Got mine from GenTechPC. Ken Lee is truly an amazing fellow ;-)
-
Tigerdirect. X3, double boxed, everything in perfectly working order and a 15.3% bing cashback to boot plus free shipping.
While there are a lot of good retailers around (some of whom you can find right here in the forums!), I have only positive things to say about TD. Purchased 3 notebooks from them, and the service and reliability has been topnotch. -

gentechpc, GSODs is about it.
-
I got mine at www.powernotebooks.com
-
G73JH-RBBX05 from BestBuy. Running Catalyst 10.7 and Bios 209.
I've only encountered one GSOD so far so I'm not really worried about it.
No other issues except for the high temps that most are getting. I plan to do a GPU repaste hopefully sometime this week.
I went to my local BestBuy in mid june for the iphone 4 pre-order and I saw this beautiful beast of a laptop. I went home and did some research and people were saying this was about the best laptop on the market for the money. I rushed back the same day and grabbed the last one in stock. -
I bought an X1 from NewEgg in Feb. First one died after three days. The screen went out so I RMAed it to NewEgg and got another brand new one as a replacement. I had to replace the thermal paste on the new one. It runs nice and cool with no GSODs. I do have to disable the touchpad to keep from missing keystrokes. I think everyone has this problem. Even people who say they don't have this problem have posts where there is a letter missing in an occasional word.
-
I got mine at Best Buy in late May and had no problems. Sold it though because I also have a g72.
-
got mine from ExcaliberPc
EDIT: First one I had a boot problem from fancy start, I RMA'd it too Asus. Second GSOD's ;( -
I bought mine from BestBuy using BIOS 211 and Ziddy's vbios i have no issues. Though i would like my laptop thermal paste replace but don't really feel like doing it myself. Will bestbuy do this for me or do i need to call asus? I have both the asus and bestbuy warranty.

Only thing my x-3 does not have is blueray.
There are 4 problems with G73 atm.
1) GSOD (Grey Screen of Death)
2) PSOD (Rare to occur, replace LCD RMA)
3) Keyboard Backlit Fail upon Bios Update (Reason i still use STOCK)
4) Overheating problems - Reapply Thermal Paste (Did not have any overheating problems yet, but if i do i will sure to swing at my local ASUS Service Depot)
2 Things will be Fixed from up there for sure and that is GSOD's and Overheating Problems, which leaves me to PSOD and Keyboard lights which is a rare problem to occur. If it does, i guess i will RMA. But in the mean time, im keeping this laptop wooooooo.
This thing is a beast, i am gonna love to take it around and show off this awesome laptop! Luckily i have a big enough Targus bag for it LOL. I was initially thinking to grab the MSI, but seeing that the problems will be resolved with this, i am just going to stick with everyone else here and wait for a UPDATE that will fix this problem once and for all. I dont know if the BB version is good or not, i know BB and Tiger versions have some things ripped from the G73 like RAM, HD Space and Blueray. -
^ How do you find out where the ASUS Service centers are located?
-
For the USA and Canada - Look Here - LINK -
ABT Electronics here. At the time, they were the only seller that had them in stock that wasn't price gouging.
-
No authorized dealers in my state
. If i repaste myself does that void the warranty? Since BIOS 211 my temps in furmark
running xtreme burn and post fx at 1600x900 (I have bestbuy model)
Time in - Temp
6:40 - 107c
9:30 - 108c
12:11 - 109c
15:38 - 110c
22:22 - 109c
34:00 - 109c
40:00 - 109c
Since it hit 110c it then went back down to 108c and is now going between 108c and 109c again i think the card underclocks it self at 110c cant be a hundred percent sure.
Is the GPU running at this temp bad? -
I got my A1 from mwave.com. They were the cheapest I could find.
I almost went with Best Buy, but after comparing the stats + warranty decided it wasn't the deal for me. -
Got mine from Memory Express in Canada, my A2 is problem free
-
-
Got mine from Amazon. A3. So far no problems and I love this thing. Playing Eve-Online on it and its beautiful. Had it for about 3 weeks now.
-
-
seems like i'm one of the few that got it from xoticpc.com
-
I got mine from xoticpc.com also, had them repaste the IC Diamond but my temps are still a little too high for my tastes
-
Well i guess i will just keep my current version rather then risking a return to bestbuy and getting one that gives me trouble. Besides the GPU temp this thing runs fine. If i redid the paste myself does that void either my bestbuy or asus warranty?

Would this do the job for repasting the thermal compound on the GPU
