Hmm, I don't know exactly where in Canada are you living in, but if you are in toronto I know at least NCIX and Canadacomputers have in store models you can pick up. If fact there is a tune-down verson going for $999cad. If cost is your priority its worthwhile to check

Ah yes, I think I know which you're talking about
    ASUS G53SW-XA2, Gaming Notebook - Intel Core i5-2410M, 15.6" Full HD (1920x1080) LED-backlit, 6GB RAM, 500GB HDD, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M 1.5GB, DVD-RW, Wireless 802.11b/g/n, USB 3.0, 2.0M Webcam, Illuminated Keyboard, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit,

My only gripe with this is that it has i5-2410M instead of i7-2630, do you think the weaker CPU is noticeable? The most intensive program I would be running is SC2, I don't use photoshop or video editing often. But when I look the difference between the two, it seems pretty significant (it is only dual core..).

And yes, I am in Toronto, thank you for your suggestions, I'll look into NCIX

The i5 SHOULD be alright with SC2. at least on paper. I acturally got myself the i7 version instead because of other factors, maybe you should consider these:
    1. the i5 version can only install up to 8GB ram (2 ram slots are not soldered into board)
    2. no BT, not sure if second HD caddy is included, no bag +mouse
