I have the Best Buy G73.

I seem to have deleted it [Direct Console] and I don't see it in the ASUS site under utilities.

    *laugh, but then help*

    Is it DC or DC2?

Do you have a link to a reasonably virus free site?

Also, for the sake of one stop shopping?

1-What to use for GPU OCing?

2-Is there other CPU OCing software that works?

3-Is there a way into the BIOS for the Best Buy G73, it seems locked?

4-Is there a software tool for changing RAM speed/timings [Like if I got 4GB of DDR2 1600mhz C7, that it will clock down to 1333. Could I get it back to 1600mhz or tighten the timings?

5] Can the CPU be undervolted and would that keep more cores open @ higher speeds with turbo enabled?

That's something that wasn't provided by ASUS for the G73JH-X1 model.

    It's version v2.0.9

The world has a lot of virus free sites. :) Oh, you mean to Direct Console, yes. It's available at the ASUS site. This is a direct link, click here.

I suppose AMD GPU Clock Tool, click here.

You might want to check out the posts Betaflame made starting here in the 'Asus G73 Benchmark Thread' regarding SetFSB. I am in no way endorsing this.

Can say for sure about the BB model, but there are two ways into the BIOS with the X1 and I don't see why it would be different. First way is to press the power button and immediately start tapping the F2 key until the BIOS screen appears. Second way is to press the power button and immediately start tapping the ESC key until the boot option screen appears. It's the bottom option.

I'll leave the last two questions for someone who knows more about them.

For non-extreme cpu's there is no way to OC it safely.
    Why OC?
it should play every game out there easily!

There is no game that even uses 50% of the 720QM. I see no reason to upgrade beyond the 720 or to O/C. 720QM is simply far more powerful than any software out there except for encoding and possibly for research work. And if you are doing research, using GPGPU would be better anyways.

I don't get why you want to O/C the CPU, just for e-peen? Just no point to it at all.

It was the delete key to get into the bios on my ASUS direct G73JH, not F2.

It's not that the G73JH-A2 uses a different key than the G73JH-X1 to directly enter the BIOS, both the DEL and the F2 key do the same thing. My answer, partly taken from the guide, uses the F2 key as it's less complicated.

Battlefield: bad company 2 uses more than 50%. But yes I agree, no reason to upgrade.

The Direct Console link's download doesn't seem to install properly. Oh well. Oblivion runs good enough I guess, but I know the game so well I know

I guess I also should of asked:

What are "safe" clocks for the GPU core/mem?

Mine handles 870/1140 with no artifacting, but heat makes me comfortable leaving it at 825/1100

ASUS only offers one download for Direct Console. I double checked the link and the link is valid. Size of the archive is 3,968,561 bytes.

I'm running stock clocks and perhaps someone can confirm, but I've read that 800/1100 works.

It had an icon in my start menu, but it didn't do anything and DC wasn't in my programs and features. It was weird.
