I am interested in getting a G73 and have noticed the G73SW-A1 on a lot of sites . I see there are many models of the G73 - I imagine some may have come to correct certain problems . Is this G73SW-A1 a stable model , or is there a better one that one of the experts around here can recommend ? I noticed one thread on the G73JW-A1 ( wierd problems ) - didn't sound too encouraging .
    Thanks .

Honestly, I am glad I didn't get a G73 going by all the problems people face. I dont know about the G73SW though. I got a G53JW-A1 instead and it's been running perfectly except for keyboard lag which was solved simply by updating my ATK driver package. No other problems till now *touchwood*. One laptop I'd recommend to anyone. I play so many games on it without facing any lag and with no BSODs or GSODs or freezes etc. Love it to death.

I bought this and it still plays games at MAX on my 23" 1080p lcd. I have the g73jh bst7 and I have had zero problems after updating the normal stuff. What do u get 3-5 frames more per second with the added .5gb? nice

They are referring to the G73 models with the Nvidia 460m GPU. The G73JH (BST7) Best Buy model was not gimped other than getting a 720p screen (1600x900) resolution. The G73SW and JW models have the Nvidia 460m GPU and the Best Buy variant (BST6) has only 1GB of RAM and fewer pixel shader pipelines than the retail version (1.5GB RAM + more pipelines). I believe the BST8 Best Buy model did not come with a gimped video card, but I have yet to find a Best Buy that carries that model as there really isn't much demand for it.

I personally have the G73JH, and aside from issues with my touchpad which I've since resolved, I personally love it. The Radeon 5870M gets slightly better performance than the non-gimped Nvidia 460m (though it runs a bit hotter depending on revision of the card you have).

I personally run at 75-80C after running Furmark on Extreme Burning mode for 10 minutes+, so I have either a cooler running card, perfect paste job, or both.

Only thing I'm considering at this point is upgrading to 12-16GB of RAM and possibly replacing the LCD with a full 1080p display panel.

On choosing G73SW it should have the " New Revision/Certified Design" sticker. I think there was an isuue reguarding the CPU (Sandy Bridge) with other models. Best Buy or New Egg or other retail, it has to have that sticker for a problem-free operation.
