If you had a choice to buy a G73jw-A1 with the 460M card or the older model with the ATI 5780 card ever thing else the same witch one would you buy and why.
Need some advice going to town tomorrow to buy one or the other please advice on cons and plus of both.
I am leaning towards G73 JW A1 with the 460m I believe it is just about as fast as 5870 however runs cooler.
Seems people with older model have some heat problems with the G73 with 5870 and a few other problems with older model , or are they both alike in cons and pluses .
HELP any advice would be very much appreciate.

I'd go for the 460M.

All the issues with the JH are fixed. I've never had a problem with mine and it runs great. The JH has a minor GPU performance edge, but runs slightly hotter, some need to be repasted. The JW has a USB 3.0 port which is nice since there is no e-Sata port. At the end of the day I think they are fairly equal. If they were the same price I'd get a JW because of the USB 3.0 port. If money isn't a factor I'd get the JW. If you want to save some serios dough, you can get a refurb JH for $900, the cheapest JW is $1400 as far as I know.

I got mine since April 10 and i didnt get any major issue with it, very happy of my purchase. I cant really compare with the JW because i dont own it my self but i can give you my opinions.
As mentioned by ValkerieFire, the JH has the ATI(now AMD) GPU which is slightly better then the nvidia (6% ?). Some owners has reported BSOD with the JH but i never, ever experienced this once...
AFAIK, both have the same mobo and features except the JW has the USB 3.0, HDMI 1.4 and the 740QM instead of the 720QM (+133mhz).
I heard they tweaked the backlit keyboard so it light up as soon as it start up.
I think you can find the JH cheaper but its more difficult to find (new) and be aware there many versions of it. Some are sold with less rams, with only 1 HD, no blu-ray, 1600x900 resolution, no backpack+mouse, etc...
Here a review which explain the difference with both:

Hope it can help! -
The 73JW -A1 also has Blu-Ray DVD Combo and the USB 3.0 port and 460 m card that is the big differences that I can see.
I have the ATI 5780 in my desk top and it is a great card but in this laptop the 460m is a much newer generation card that can be a plus or a con I know , but like I have read it runs cooler and this is always good in a laptop.
And add to this decision now the new SB processor is out I believe , but I believe that would drive the cost of this laptop up to the point that I would not buy it. -

Have to agree with you on blu-ray but I think it is standard now with G73 JW
Don't think I have a choice.
One other thing that is standard that I like is the i7 7400QM Processor
Problem with G73JH-A1 I found here in Edmonton Canada is it is around same price give or take $20.00
So I think I will go with the G73JW-A1 they are both great laptops but why go with last years model if it costs around the same , that just does not make sense to me why best buy doesn't have the G73JW they do have older G73JH A-1 and will not drop price.
So I am going to buy the newer G73JW A-1 from Memory Express. $1572.00 -
Get the JW, it is fresher/newer, separate touchpad buttons, usb 3.0 and a cooler nvidia gtx 460m card

Hi,
I've finally decieded that I'll buy a G73( I own a FSC Amilo PA1510, so you can guess its a wee bit old.). Have started to read through this forum, and thankfully I discovered this topic. But it left me in a bigger doubt than ever.
Here in Hungary, one can buy two types of G73s. The G73JW-TZ065V (i7-740QM,Nvidia 460,USB 3.0, blueray, 1TB HDD), and the G73JH-TZ207V (i7-740QM,ATI HD 5870,blueray, USB 2.0, 1TB HDD). I had read in this topic that the JW with the nvidia gpu performs better than the JH.
Clear thing upto this point: JW sells at ~500k Huf (~2500 usd), JH sells at ~580k Huf(~2900 usd). Someone please enlighten me, how could a 400$ cheaper laptop outperform the more expensive one? Or its just some wierd pricemaking policy?
Thanks in advance

The JH actually has a graphics edge on the JW. So that is why they are charging more perhaps. It could also be because the JH is being phased out and stock may be limited. The JH outperforms the JW by <10%, but to some people it matters. I'd definitely get the cheaper one if I was you.

Also you should note that drivers for the ati card are mature and there wont be any major updates.. In the other case, drivers for the nvidia card is still in its developmental stage.. Someone here in nbr posted an increase of around 600 points increase in 3dmark6 using the newly released driver.. So even if the ati card wins now, most probably in another 6 months 460m will beat or atleast will be on par with the 5870.. Also dont forget 460m renders directx11 better than 5870.. So future games will surely run better on jw.. So i would go with the jw..

the JH is better IMO.. has a proper GPU which actually beats 460M for beginers and screen doesn't have all the issues like the JW below.

I'd get the JH..
