The only place I saw version 11.0.0.1032 was on Intel's website under "Intel® Rapid Storage Technology Driver for Intel Desktop Boards".

Did Asus really have version 11.0.0.1032 distributed on their official drivers DVD?

Personally, I would use the stock 11.0. I don't see any changelogs on the net for 11.2.

It is the SATA interface controller, installing it is a must for better performance.

It is usually essential when you want to setup RAID drives (as in, 2 drives working at the same time but acting as ONE, they use such setups in high performance machines or servers). However, installing the IRST AKA Intel Rapid Storage Technology is essential on the latest systems and usually with each IRST update there is a slight disk transfer rate performance.

Use of the default driver that comes with Windows 7 is also acceptable, but IRST usually offers a small boost in performance. version 10.8 totally broke e-SATA for me though so i had to trash it from my N50.

Very true, 10.1 was ok, 10.8 was horrible, 11.0.0.32 was average, 11.1.0.0.6 (dunno if i get the version right on this one) was really good, and 11.2 is the best so far
