Ok, so on Realtek's main page, their latest driver is the R2.54. If I go to Asus' G73JH downloads page, they now have this driver called the Realtek SRS Audio Driver (v6.0.1.6122) listed.

What is the difference here and why is it called SRS? Which one is compatible with the Creative Driver so as to not cause lockups and other problems?

    Thanks.

Also, on another note based on the Asus driver page...

Under some categories like Card Reader, Camera, LAN, and Wireless, there are multiple drivers labeled differently. How do I know which one is required by my Asus G73JH? I'm trying to compare with the current driver installed from the Utilities CD, but nothing is named the same.

Is there somewhere I can go to find this information or does anyone know off-hand which driver from each category is the latest one corresponding to the G73JH?

i'm on JW, but i was able to use the realtek 254 driver, need to uninstall previous driver though. Seems to improve sound quality, it's "louder" now. Should be the same for JH.

Use the Realtek 2.54 driver, this one works with the the software that is in the G73's , and it does work well. And like Hteng said it does make the sound louder and it is clear sound , not over pushed .

As to finding out about the drivers that you speak of , I think in the utility folder on the download site for the G73,but not sure about that.
You will have to go in to your system information or your Device Manager to find the type of hardware that you have, Camera , Network card , what ever you are looking for and write down the model that is in your system . It seems that these drivers are used for more than one machine or there is different hardware used in the G73 models. So far the ones that I have worked on all have had the same hardware, but that does not mean that all are that way.
I had to do this to find what type of webcam was in my G73 so I could get the driver as there where two or three types of drivers in that folder for webcams .

I just got this G73JH today and I installed the 2.54 realtek drivers. so far it is very very stable and sounds good. The creative volume manager thing (v2.21.04) is working as well.

I checked my device manager, but couldn't see the type of hardware based on the driver information for my system. For instance, the webcam drivers are labled as "Chicony xxxx" on Asus, but my webcam in my system is something basic like "USB 2.0 xxxx".

So the Realtek R2.54 driver is good, but I'm still wondering what the Realtek SRS Audio driver is on Asus for this model. Is it the same driver, just labeled differently, or is it a newer/older driver?

    Thanks.

Yeah I am wondering the same thing, what is the Realtek SRS Audio driver ? I did some research on this and the only thing I could come up with is it is an older surround sound driver , but I am not sure as it does not show and I could not get any feedback on this from the site. I think it is supposed to be used if you do not have software like we have , the X-FI software, But I am not sure on this either . I do not know if we are supposed to load this on top of what we have , or if we are supposed to use it as a stand alone or with out the X-fi software. No where I read did I get any answers. And I looked every where I could find that was newer Information.

Most of what I found was old info and did not go with what we are looking for. I found a few descriptions that told a little about it but no full data on how what where and when.

This is one of the things that bothers me the most about ASUS's site, they put up drivers and the sort but no data on what it is for or how it works, no trip sheets at all. So you almost have to guess or just load it and see what happens. And that can have a bad outcome!

Someone on here said they loaded it, but they did not say what they did or how they did it, nor did they leave any data on how it worked. OR at least the one post I read did not. I have tried to use the search function here but it does not work so well for me. OR am using it wrong.
It would be great if someone here new about what it does and could let us know the details about the software.

I'm using the Realtek R2.54 driver on a clean Windows 7 install, and it almost seems like it's actually "too loud" now. It seems like it's adding some reverb sound, and some songs I play or games I launch acually sound like my speakers are bad by the echo/reverb I'm getting. Sort of like a car that has cranked bass music, but it sounds crappy.

I'm not using Creative though. Are those reporting good results with R2.54 using Creative?

Hmm, I do not know why your speakers are sounding like they are, my sound got louder and more intense and clearer after I loaded these drivers but the sound did not get worse. In fact it sounds better than it ever did. I had to turn down the sound volume lower than I normally kept it as the sound had risen enough that the setting that I had was too loud.

And as to the X-FI software I am running it and it seems to work just fine.
The only thing is that we still cannot hear the bass and you cannot set the speakers to 2.1 in the sound setup, it just lets you set it to 2 , stereo mode. But this is a known issue and one of the reasons we are waiting for the new software from ASUS.
You might reload your sound drivers and put in the Creative drivers and see if that clears up what you are hearing.
Also you might read some of the post here. There are some fixes for some of the sound issues that some have.
But I have to say that my sound is working great. Coming out of the speakers that is.
