Can I trade the G73 for a laptop made of money? If not I'd get a Clevo, I dunno which one though. Otherwise I'd get cash for a desktop.

i dont think AW M17X-R3 nor else mentioned above (clevo, sager ((in similar spec))) arent in our price range ($1500 +/- roughly..),,,
are u guys saying G73 is still the best in its price range?

Probably an NP8170. Seems to be the best option now, within the price range...

Otherwise, I'd get a similarly priced desktop. Maybe something along the lines of an i7 2600K, EVGA/Gigabyte motherboard, 8GB DDR3, and a GTX 570/580 (no stupid AMD crap). I'd switch my Vertex 2 directly out of the G73 and into the desktop with the bracket that came with the SSD.

Not going to happen though. I'm waiting for Ivy Bridge. ;)

And Bumbleboner... that Trollface is almost creepy, lol.

    Desktop.

Buying a gaming laptop was a terrible idea for work - wouldn't have been so bad if they keyboard and trackpad worked.

For the current owners of the JH/JW series, this fits in perfectly with the timeline. I wouldn't feel too bad about missing Sandy Bridge. Takes a year or two to phase out a gaming laptop, and Ivy Bridge should launch right when we're in the market for a new one.

Desktops shouldn't even factor into this thread imo. We all got powerful laptops for a reason. lol

Probably I would get the sager NP8170-S1 too, I always had the doubt between sager/asus/toshiba...
I would not get a SSD upgrade, yet with around 2000$ I would get the best Nvidia GPU and a very good CPU, still 1 tera of HDDs, FHD screen and international warranty...

Have I to say anything else?

I'd still choose an Asus G73 variant (due to the cooling system and tolerable noise level)

with the following default configuration (if already available):

a nice performing processor than the 720qm such as SB i7's
a significantly stronger Radeon GPU compared to the current HD 5870
with raid0 enabled and inclusion of Mini Display Port for Eyefinity
with better sound system (subwoofer volume settings are separated from the stereo)
and more stable and less problems compared to the JH and JW
