Who has gone from a G51JX to a G73?

Like the thread title says....
What are the likes dislikes..
True size difference..


I know the G73 has fewer ext ports but what else was a drawback?

Hoping to hear something other than hype..

Anyone want a G51JX?

 

I did until i saw the G73... which was way nicer and overal just better. and there fairly close in price as well.

 

Ive been following the g73 threads since the beginning and from what others say, there are no drawbacks. Size difference depends on you. I prefer small to mid but not too big. Just know that even though the g73 has a 17.3 inch screen, "its smaller then I thought" is what most people say.

dislikes..... I guess the price. Although I say that, you won't find a laptop anywhere else with this kind of offer (1tb, 5870 ati card, 8 gigs of ram for only $1640 is like wow).

Im just curious as I have seen the thread on backpacks and no one has mentioned any of the swiss gear bags..well built whereas some of the ones listed look cheaply made...

It would be nice to see a 51 next to a 73 in the same photo for size comparison...anyone??

 

The Dell XPS bag is a Wenger. I think the big issue with the Swiss bags are that they are rather snug with the protection they offer. I suppose that's the compromise of quality protection. For a G73, you would need an 18" capable bag from them, which I haven't seen any.

 

I did; I returned the g51jx because of hardware problems specific to my machine. The g73 is quite nice, but I would have stayed with the g51 if it didn't have those problems. I don't think the price difference is enough to justify the jump, **BUT** if I could pay the same for each, the g73 is classier. I miss CUDA cores, physx and nVidia driver stability, but the g51 is kinda gaudy. If you really want to make a switch but don't want 17 inches (it's not that much bigger than the g51, actually), just wait a few months and get a g53.

As for drawbacks? None, really, compared to the g51. There have been some hardware problems with the g73, but no more than the g51j/jx BSOD/throttling problems. The touchpad on the g73 is HUGE, though. It's not specifically a drawback, it's ... just big.

I bought an -A2 (well, an -A1, then an -A2), and the bag that comes with it is nice and classy. The g73 looks much nicer, but doesn't bring much to the table beyond what the g51 has...

As for gaudy I skinned mine with the Carbon Fiber look when it was days old. If I wait for the G53 I'll likely get pennies on the dollar for this one. As it is I really like this notebook but my confidence in it has been shaken..
