I never use Express Gate, not being able to use the native resolution of the screen is a deal breaker for me. I left it on my machine though because I thought it might be good to have it in case at some point I could not login to Windows 7.

I shut my machine down this morning and was cleaning the dust off of it and by accident pushed the Express Gate start button. It started and I then shut it down in the proper way using the off button on the screen in the Express Gate program. I then started up Windows normally and within a couple of minutes my machine locked up. My machine never locks so I am positive it was the opening of Express Gate that caused the issue, plus it has happened before.

    So my question is...

How can opening Express Gate and then shutting it down again in the proper way have a lingering affect on Widows 7? Hopefully one of the Windows gurus can answer this.

The lockups will continue until I can successfully boot into windows and manage to do a normal shut down, once I have accomplished this the machine will be perfectly stable.

    Cheers

From what I have read, there is an update to this program called Cloud on the ASUS web site, I would suggest removing Xpress Gate and installing it. Personally I do not have either installed.

I tried the newest cloud version, it seemed to install properly but would not work. When I press the button it says the program may not be installed...

I was looking at EG and it installs to c:\Asus.sys (I think judging by the size of the folder) Is that where your original install was? (I just loaded it from the OEM CD; not cloud the original EG) and it seems to work, man it is tough finding any definitive documentation other than a file with this name
HD-install-instructions-EN.htm. Hope these random thoughts help, Josea

I deleted it now so I can't see where it was. Like I said the cloud version did not work. I would have to reload it to see if it installed to Asus.sys. I did not see a folder other than the ExpressGate Utility folder which was just 17 megs so it might have been there at Asus.sys. If the new cloud version supports 1920 x 1080 resolution then I would like to pursue installing it. Does anyone have cloud installed, and can you confirm whether or not the resolution can be turned up to native 1920 x 1080.

    Cheers

Yeah, it's true, the cloud version doesn't work on my G73 too. It says it can't be installed, so I have no other choice but to install the ExpressGate on the Asus Drivers CD that came with the laptop. Then afterwards, going to Windows7 made it hang-up on me. Tried system restoring but still it locks up. What I did was I reinstalled the latest Realtek 2.57 drivers on safe mode and it finally didn't lock-up anymore.
