I've been researching gaming laptops the past few days and the Asus G73SW-3de is at the top of my list. The only reason I haven't ordered one is the Gtx 460m graphics card which is the only option. Anyone have any idea if and when Asus will be offering updated graphics cards? My budget is $2500. For that price I can get a Sager with the options I want but I love the design of the Asus.

for less than 2500 bucks you can get an alienware m17x r3 with a 6970 which is a better card. more ram and edge to edge glass. I have the 460m, its ok, not blazing fast, but thats what happens to technology over short spans of time lol.
also is 3d a must? -
Because GTX460M is basically the midrange gaming graphic cards at the moment. In order to accommodate a beefier graphics card, ASUS would probably need to redesign to heatsink system. After all, ASUS is really not known for ultra-high end gaming notebooks (the last ultra-high end gaming notebook from ASUS was G70, which the sale was horrible).
Personally I don't think ASUS will be updating their gaming notebook until Nvidia releases the next generation notebook graphics. -

The G73's design is just not worth the buy. I didn't buy it for the design.
For $2500, you're much, MUCH better off with a customized Sager NP8170 (or its Clevo equivs) or a decked out MSI GT780r(?).
The Alienware M18x has also launched, so assuming you don't have an aversion to having LED's all up in your business, its an option to consider. -
Yeah, if price is not an issue, there are better options. But best bang-for-buck, you're looking at asus.

I'd also consider looking at the G53SW models, if you're curious. Personally, I think 17-inch screens are just a bit too big and clunky, and in terms of portability and battery-life sort of push it over the edge into being a little too desktop-like for my taste. I'm incredibly happy with my G53SW, which has the performance of the G73SW but is just a bit more manageable in terms of size. I also don't know that I'd consider the GTX 460m to be midrange - maybe in terms of dedicated gaming laptops that's tryet, but as far as laptops in general go it's pretty high-end.
I mean, my G53SW only cost $1200, and as far as I know that's very cheap. Since that was the upper-limit of my price-range, I wasn't expecting to be able to afford a legitimate premium gaming laptop at all. I mean, if I were shopping Alienware, an M14x with the same processor and memory specs, but a smaller screen size, lower screen resolution, and worse graphics card would have cost me $1400. Can't beat Asus for bang-for-buck factor, seriously. I spent quite a while making sure.
Why only the GTX 460m?
