Can someone please explain to me the difference between the two available wifi cards for the G73?

    The two option are: Built-in 802.11a/g/n WiFi Card or Built-in Intel® PRO/Wireless 5300 802.11a/g/n

The one that comes with it, or you can upgrade to the Intel. For example, the one that comes in my N71 is an Atheros, or I could upgrade. It's up to you. You will have to wait and ask what comes in it when the resellers have that info.

I dont mean to take over the thread, but can someone please explain to me the difference between the two available wifi cards for the G73 as far as chipset is concerned? I use my laptop at work as a packet sniffer/ basic network analyzer and am wondering if the intel 5300(or the original...) would be able to use promiscuous mode or RFMON mode.

I don't know what Atheros is. The first of the two I listed is what comes standard. The Intel is the upgrade. So what is better about the Intel over the standard?

Okay, Atheros is a brand, just like Intel... I told you that the standard on mine is Atheros, and I could upgrade to Intel. On the G73, I do not know what the standard is. However, you can choose to upgrade to the Intel you listed. More than likely, the Intel 5300 is a better card than whatever standard comes with the computer, since the Intel 5300 is listed as an upgrade.

This information is in the main G73 thread as well as the owner's lounge thread.

It is unknown right now whether an upgrade is worthwhile. A couple of the re-sellers in the thread say that there may only be 2 antenna leads in the G73, which will negate any range/strength advantage of the Intel 5300.

The Standard wifi that Asus ships (intel 1000 b/g/n) works very well and IMHO is not worth upgrading. My g51j connects to my preferred wireless providers instantaneous after login and gets great signal strength.
