Hello. This issue's been happening to me again -_-
Whenever I try to play any game at 1600x900 resolution, the game either crashes or refuses to run it in fullscreen. (The option for the resolution isn't available in any games, so I usually have to put it in a ini file I have updated my Directx and c++ files to the latest version, but the problem still persists.

The only thing I can think about why it doesn't work is because I updated my drivers to the 285.27 Nvidia beta.
    Please help.

I tried that, but it didn't work.
I guess I'll just reformat windows 7 then.

You dont need to, you can try two things.
First grab the directx web installer from microsoft, launch it, and let it run to see if it upgrades some components.

Then, you need to clean install the drivers. Use Driver Sweeper method to install them clean and try again.

I tired using the directx web installer it says it doesn't need to run since its updated.

Kingpinzero, how do I use the driver sweeper to remove it? If you mean the graphics driver, then I already know how to. But if its not the graphics driver, then can you please show me step by step?

    Did that...and it didn't work.
The drivers installed correctly, but the 1600x900 resolution doesn't work.

Try to create a custom res in NVCP with 59hz refresh rate and test it out.

    Still crashes.
Just cause 2 reverts back to 1920x1080. Witcher 2 says direct 3d 9 initialization error.

So it is a directx issue afterall. I guess your os is screwed, maybe a format will help.

Yeah. Going to do a format soon.
I should'nt have let games install directx constantly..learned my lesson now. Will only update directx from microsoft.

Nah that's not the problem, I always let the games do their updates. Directx installation in games are like Microsoft web installer; if components are there they don't upgrade anything.
The issue IMHO is prior to something else happened lately, maybe a corrupt dll or file that is causing a mess.
But is strange that the directx web installer doesn't update anything if something is corrupt.
Did you upgraded to sp1 manually?

I dont think so. Back when I first got this laptop, I upgraded it to 7 professional.
This problem didn't occur until a few days ago.
Well I looked through my registry and I see that theres only 1 file in my Directx folder...could this be the problem?

Yeah, also run DXDIAG from Run command to see the state of your directx components.

Sorry to use that topic , but i have a single question about resolutions :

When i bought my G74 , i didn't know if i had to take the 1600*900 or the 1920 * 1080 screen. I choose the full HD one , but on games like Crysis 2 , i can't use a resolution like 1600*900. Does the full HD screen didn't support that resolution ? Is there a way to play on a good widescreen ratio without choosing 1920*1080 which is too high , and 1366*768 wich is a bit blurry ?

Dx Diag reads Directx 11 without any problems.
I tried replacing my system32 with the windows professional system32 on the original 7 disk, but it didn't work and I think its too risky to do that.

I'm going to do a reformat. It sounds like its the easiest and safest solution for now.
