Hey I have a friend that have a Asus G51JX-A1 and he want to upgrade to the 5870m. I was wondering is it doable? Will the bios support it and what about the temperature? Right now he have the GTS 360m and when it fully load it hit 85C but he said he can mod it to where it be max 90C with the 5870m.

Simply put, no. The machine gets ridiculously hot apparently and it isn't designed to take on the 5870

What about the bios, he said that his current bios will support the 5870m? Can he flash it to the G73 bios?

You should search the forum, this has already been discussed. The short answer is: No. The bios will *not* officially support the 5870m, the MXM card is too big, the g51 already hits 95 degrees EASY with a 260m, and the vbios for the 260/360 is on the mobo, whereas it's on the 5870m itself.

Having said that, why not try it? You can report back here with your findings.

    Great idea.
Worst than can happen is that it won't boot up.
