I have done a fresh install of Windows 7 on my G73jh. Initially I tried to use the key I had for my upgraded installation which was Win 7 Pro. The Key did not work... so I installed again and chose Win 7 home premium and used the key that came with my machine.

Once the operating system was installed and activated I tried to use the Win 7 Pro key for the anytime upgrade and it comes back with the error that it cannot be done from this current installation.

I am thinking that this is happening because I used an install version that does not contain the needed upgrade files. Can someone please enlighten me. And ... If this is the case what recourse do I have to get back to Win 7 Pro?

    Thanks

I would call Microsoft to have them resolve the issue for you or you could always try a "clean upgrade" as in reformatting the drive while doing the upgrade.

I guess that would require a Win 7 Pro disk... which I don't have. I will try calling them, thanks.

    Thanks Josea,

That was where I got the install files from originally a while back. I got them as I anticipated doing a fresh install, which I just did. First time I tried it I chose Win 7 Pro as I do have a key for that version. When it asked for the key I was told it was not the right one for that version. I then aborted the install and second time around I chose Win 7 Home Premium version and used the original key that came with my machine and the new install went fine. I then tried to use the 'Anytime Upgrade' with the Win 7 Pro key I got when I upgraded a while back on the original oem install of Win 7 Home Premium. It then said this version of Windows could not be upgraded.

I think the files that are available for download at the link you sent me are missing the needed files for 'Anytime Upgade' .

If the Pro key is from an Upgrade pack, then run the Win 7 Pro install CD from within Win 7, and do an Upgrade install.

    Hi Chastity,
Thanks for responding. I was already into the Microsoft support process when you responded. They got me to install SP1 and then try the Key I had again, it still did not work. They then gave a new key and it worked perfectly. I am very impressed by the service I got from Microsoft support.

    Cheers
