I'm just curious if anyone is going to be trying out the newly released Win8 Consumer Preview on their G74SX (or similar)? From what I'm reading so far drivers *should not* be a problem as Win7 versions are fine. I may take the plunge but might test the waters on my older yet still decent Dell XPS M1530 notebook. There's an excellent article here with a step-by-step on install and activation. It would be nice if we can share experiences and feedback.
FYI, the actual Win8 iso is freely available via Microsoft's site.

I am in, I will backup my system first. Then I will run it in Oracle VM because I am sure it will be buggy. My D/L just finished, it may be a long night !
Host - G73JH - in Signature 64 BIt win 7 home
A. the 64 Bit would not install for me so I D/L'ed the 32 bit version
1. enable virtualization in BIOS
2. install Current Oracle (sun) virtual box - default install, say yes to all prompts
3. Ram 2048 , Virtual hard disk default, File type VDI, VDisk storage - default, the follow this guide
NOTE if you have issues installing do not save the VM. Power it off, then start a new one
The installation to my Hdd took about 20 minutes

I had no issues installing and running Windows 8 on my G74SX.
However,
I really hope this is some sort of joke from Microsoft. -
^^^^ I hear that, the average user coming from XP, Vista or 7 are not going to be happy IMO.
M$ should extent support for win 7 to 2040 NOW.

I really don't get the hate... It's not like they completely overhauled things to where it's unrecognizable...
Sure, the start menu has been replaced with the ribbon, but that said it's not hard to pin apps to it and get used to that. Performance has been solid and the "desktop" portion of the OS operates pretty much identically to Windows 7.
Is it really that hard to get used to? Not at all in my opinion, and there's no real performance difference from my personal use between Windows 8 and Windows 7. They don't have a lot of Metro apps yet, but I'm sure as more and more are made/udpated, it's going to be really nice.
I could see if somehow they completely changed things from Windows 7, but that's just not the case. A new start bar? Sure. But the desktop works pretty much identically to Windows 7. -
One question peeps have they removed my beloved gadgets?
If so I wont bother trying it... -

Haters's gonna hate ...
Like EVERY SINGLE piece of hardware / Software that changes from before , peoples are raging.
That suck. Yes , Windows 8 looks cool , but it will suffer from the same hate Apple haters just spread on internet ( blabla iPad suck useless blabla ) ...
It's different ? So it suck. I don't really get what's wrong with thoses people that never agree with anything ... ( same kind of people that always try to tell you that the music they listen is cooler than yours and just try to explain you every single day that you know nothing in term of music if you don't like the same thing ... )
