So I am planning to install 8 but have become too lazy to go the clean route. Anyone has any experience here for how long it takes. My G73 is fully loaded with apps and stuff.

    Thanks.

    Hi
I don't have specific G73 numbers, but I heard from 1-2 hours in an average. Make sure to uninstall your virus scanner first to speed things up greatly and avoid possible problems.

Yeah you can say that again... I also have a G73JH fully equipped, and upgraded it to W8, with the "keep all" setting. Had major problems with uninstalling Microsoft Security Essentials. Had to manually scan for specific register keys to let the W8 installer know that MSE had been uninstalled. After that, it took around 2-3 hours for me to complete the installation.

Almost everything works great! The only G73JH problems I encountered:

    - Disable touchpad function key doesn't work. Luckily it is disabled, but I can't get it on again with that key. Should probably install a new Touchpad driver.
    - Noticed a small (around 10%) drop in FPS for Guild Wars 2. Also, the CPU/GPU fan (don't know which one specifically) sometimes spins really fast for no apparent reason (on idle). I think I need to update my video/cpu drivers

Other than that, everything works smoothly!

touchpad disable button FN + touchpad button works
make sure you have installed the ATK package along with the KB filter (synaptics has nothing to do with that button)

or alternative option would be to put the registry hack that disables touchpad when mouse is plugged

as far as for the fans check processes via task manager
i would believe more that some proccess is hurting your GPU/CPU FAN
i dont believe drivers would be the problem too

When I did the "Keep All" settings, it took about 45 minutes.
When I did a "clean" upgrade install, it took around 30 minutes.
That was on an Intel SSD, 8GB Ram, 2630QM.
Drivers etc took more time, of course.
