Hi all,
I wanted to post this observation to the forum users in case anyone has any input.
I installed Windows 8 preview on my G73JW and noticed the following:
1. The keyboard backlight no longer works. As I suspect this is controller by a driver under Windows 7, any ideas if a Windows 8 solution exists?
2. The USB 3.0 port on the right side also is non-functional. Suspect same issue as the keyboard light.
Windows 8 is actually faster on the same machine than Windows 7 but would love to resolve the above issues.
Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Install the ATK package for windows 7 if you haven't done so already. Same for USB3.0, you need to install the driver you can get from Asus' support website.

Thank you for the reply. Didn't realize the Windows 7 drivers worked on Windows 8 but will try that.

Most work and you need the ATK package for Fn keys to work as well for certain other things, i believe the keyboard lights are among those as are Asus software like P4G.

I had the same problem with my G73JH and Windows 8 Enterprise; but I used the ATK drivers from the Asus support site. I also had to install the Realtek 2.66 audio driver so my headphone jack would work properly.

I have the same problem. I installed all the windows 7 drivers from the website. The keyboard light, fn key, and especially the network drivers are not working. The wireless works, but the network there is a problem with it.

There should be a windows 8 version of ATK on Asus' website now, try that.

I am using the windows 8 version of ATK from Asus site and it works great.

Care to give us a link? The ONLY ones I can find are Win 7 64bit ...

So I went to a random laptop (recent one) and downloaded the most up to date drivers I could that would work with my laptop.
HOWEVER, the G53SW-A1 still has a sound issue, and it's annoying. :S
Oh well, c'est le vie. -
i had a same problem too with my asus slimbook, but why after i install that driver my notebook still doesn't work normally..... please tell me.....

After uninstalling / reinstalling the ATK Package, you may need to hit Fn+F4 to get the KB lights back on
Windows 8 and keyboard lights
