let say you have put the "intel inf install utility in "c:\" open a "Command Prompt" and in "C:\" location do "INFINST_AUTOL.EXE -OVERALL"

Note: if the file name is named different, adjust it accordingly.
    Hope it helps a little

Re: Windows 8 on G73JH resource pool
I just did an update for Win 8 on the lappy, and used these:

    http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/..._64_VER217.zip
    http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/...64_Z100023.zip

The file that you are trying to
    Drivers | Synaptics
The file that you are trying to

Run the INF updater with -overall, then update RST. I'm also on 12.10 atm, since I use the Netflix gadget

Okay I installed all the above that Chastity suggested. The only step that I did not do was the INF updater. Wagnard did explain what and how that is to be use on a cmd prompt ( thanks!)..So when you say Run the INF updater is that for the intel driver or for any of the above drivers, or has it nothing to do with the above drivers? I looked though the post in this thread and I see a few references about sleep issues and the ATI driver. What is the best suggestion at this point? I have not installed any ATI drivers, just whatever WIN 8 installed. My laptop screen went blank, however it did not go to sleep. I will re-verify my Power settings. - Okay the Power4Gear was set to high performance,- set to balance (not gaming at the moment, will put back to performance when playing mmo.

Thank you for posting those links on Page 4. Made my transition to Windows 8 that much easier. You've been a huge help for years now since I bought my G73JH.

Hi all. I've just clean-installed Win8x64 on a G73jh, and all seems to be working very well, except for one (possibly two) very minor issues.

The problem is that the on-screen display for volume, keyboard lights, etc. works correctly, but it doesn't work for the turbo or splendid buttons (nothing shows).
Splendid itself works as the screen colors do indeed change when I press the button, but there's no indication of which mode I'm switching to.
I can't tell if turbo boost is working or not; it's either not working, or else just the OSD for it isn't showing. (If it's not working, that's my 2nd minor issue).

The (possibly) relevant drivers & software I installed were:

BIOS & Video BIOS - latest versions (I ensured these were up to date BEFORE installing Win8)
Intel Chipset drivers - latest version from intel.com
KBFilter - latest version from Asus "drivers for Win8" page.
ATKPackage - latest version from Asus "drivers for Win8" page.
Splendid - from the G73jh downloads page
Power4Gear Hybrid - from the G73jh downloads page (v1.1.37; I installed this older version because I want the turbo button to work, and Chastity stated above that this is the last version supporting it).
Intel MEI - from the G73jh downloads page
ATI Catalyst video driver & software - latest from amd.com (13.xx I think)

Has someone else had this problem, or can someone tell me how to get the Splendid and TurboBoost OSDs back?
BTW the OSD is set to enabled using the ATKOSDMgr utility (that's in the ATKOSD program directory somewhere), and running the "Enable ASUS OSD" executable downloadable under "drivers for Win8" (I think?) didn't help either.

    Thanks.

P.S. Another minor annoyance is the keyboard backlight. Turning it off and on again resets it's brightness to zero, so it looks like it hasn't turned back on (it has). Also, when adjusting the brightness, it isn't possible to make it quite as bright as it starts out on boot-up. (It's as if the adjuster control only goes up to 80% or 90%). Not sure if this is due to Win8, my choice of drivers, or a previously existing problem that I'm just (re-)noticing now...

    hello everybody,
I've switched to win8 this week on my G73jh.
downloaded the stock drivers from the support @ asus.com but the AMD driver and realtek.
I can confirm that turboboost, splendid are running on win8

I used the latest beta from AMD the 13.2_beta5--> tried DeusEx HR--> runs smoothly. I encounterd an awkward problem though. When closing lid I choose to do nothing, so when I do close the lid the laptop freezes completely, blank screen with the 2 fans throttling up to 100% (guess from the loud sound)

for realtek i used the latest from the realtek website --> confirmed running

the only problem is with the creative sound blaster audigy HD, i surfed for 3 - 4 days the forums with no luck
so far i tried the stock driver --> no supported device and coulndt install --> though i could install it by acessing the setup exe through creative folder downloaded from asus website --> Audio folder --> setup folder --> setup. after the restart i could see the creative software but when accessing i had only the mixer and the speaker logo without the other CMSS and stuff and when I try to access any of its option the app crashes.
    I tried next the SB24! 1.04.0090 and XFRL 3.00.2004 --> no luck
Ill try the XFi driver not the modded one and will report back.

So it would seem that to get Splendid and TurboBoost working, the KBFilter and/or the ATKPackage needs to be the one from the G73jh downloads page?
(I'm guessing it's nothing to do with the Intel chipset drivers).

Chastity, you're the expert here... is that correct, and is there any reason to prefer later (non-G73jh) versions instead, in spite of it?

Anybody having issues with their G73JH on Windows 8 waking from sleep? No matter what method I use to put my computer to sleep or wake it (Fn+F1, power button, mouse movement, charm menu sleep, Start8 menu sleep) at least one out of three times the hard drive spins up upon waking, but the screen stays black. Keyboard keys do not work, so I can't try putting it back to sleep. I have to hold power until it powers off, and then power on again. I am running the latest Catalyst 13.1, which I had been hoping would solve this. Also, I did not install Power4Gear. From what I can tell, a lot of people are having strange sleep, hibernation, and wake problems on Windows 8.

Also, anyone have issues with explorer force closing occasionally? Seems to be when two explorer windows are open where I have navigated to one of my libraries (e.g. My Documents or My Music), as opposed to navigating to the directory itself. I see this is happening to others on various forums with all varieties of computers.

I'd like to help figure this out, so anyone with these issues, please chime in and share. I'll keep messing with things and reading around.

Try disabling hibernation and re-enabling it to recreate the hibernation file.

I appreciate your help, Chastity. Have only used Sleep a couple of times since disabling hibernation, but so far it's been waking properly. I had hybrid sleep off already, but for now I'm just going to leave hibernation disabled altogether, as I don't use it much anyway. We'll see how the next couple of days go.

I am looking at doing a clean install on my G73JH-A1 which I upgraded with a Crucial M4 SSD as the system drive. I am a technet subscriber so can choose either Windows 7 or Windows 8. I tried out Windows 8 in bootcamp on my iMac and REALLY hated the Metro UI and the gestures. For those who have clean installed Windows 8: was it worth it? What did you gain over a Windows 7 SP1 clean install? Thanks!

Well I moved to windows 8 on mine, it's a leaner OS, you can modify it to just basically have it in desktop mode and add in a start menu so if I had to choose between the two I would get 8 and mod it.

Thanks - that would be my plan exactly. Stability-wise, is it comparable to Windows 7 on the G73JH? It took forever to finally get the trackpad and keyboard worked out so they were bug free in Windows 7 (e.g. the missing keystroke problem in particular). Are those fixed using the same procedures as in Windows 7? If it weren't for adding the SSD, I would just be leaving things as they are. If I won't be losing stability and gaining a little performance, as well as adding some life to my G73JH, then i'll take the jump to Windows 8.

Because I didn't want to waste time. :)

I'll do an Acronis backup this weekend and then give it a shot. I've downloaded the files that chastity posted links to and cross my fingers. This is my work machine that doubles as my home gaming machine (my desktop is an iMac) so need it to be stable. Worse comes to worse I go back to Windows 7. Just wanted to benefit from the experience of the other guinea pigs before I jumped onto the wheel.

I'm using the latest Catalyst 13.3 Beta 3 driver at the moment.
The vBios is the bios for the video card. The original video-bios (vbios) has a bug which caused bluescreens when using newer drivers. This was fixed in the new vbios.
This does not affect the normal laptop bios.

Thanks pato - I know that the VBios is for the video card and that it was a virtual bios. I was curious as to what the VBios accomplishes that the regular doesn't (overclocking, undervolting, etc..).

Did you install the intel chipset inf's, atk package, keyboard filter, etc... that Chastity posted (Windows 8 versions of those) or did you use the Windows 7 drivers from Asus, or just the stock drivers that Windows 7 installed on its own? Thanks again!

Ah the regular vbios :) As far as I remember, the only difference is a lower clock and voltage in 2D mode.
I did not install any other drivers by hand after the Upgrade (I let it install Windows Update drivers if available, but deselected the LAN card driver), but over the years on Win7 I probably once updated the chipset, keyboard filter, touchpad (which is important if you use it) and atk package. Only always the latest version of the AMD 5870M driver.

Well I made the jump. Everything stable except for the occasional failure for the screen to come on after sleep. I disabled hibernation but no go (saw Chastity recommend that). I just updated to Catalyst 13.3 B3 from the official 31.1's. Will see if that helps. I have avoided any driver from Windows Update (as usual). A new Realtek driver was released in the past week. Tempted to jump to it but will see if the freezing on wake from sleep is solved before creating another problem. So far so good, though. Performance in Bioshock Infinite in native resolution on High is perfectly playable.

Pretty good - I am avoiding the start screen and have gone to Start8 as a start menu replacement. It is nice and stable and with an SSD added to my G73, it is nice and snappy. I would like to take the time to get used to the new UI rather than working around it. Are you pleased with it?

Hi, new to this form but was kinda tight spot. I was wondering if you'd be able to provide all the Windows 8 drivers for the G73 again.
Testing 8.1 on my laptop but I was having issues with hard lock ups where I would use the system for a short period of time it'd just freeze up.
NOT a bosd just a hard lock. If you could supply me with the adequate drivers i'd be very great full. Also any help or clues to the hard freezing would be much appreciated.

Vorisk do not let windows download and install the updates this is the default setting. I installed a few of the ones that were safe but stopped after I ran into KB2863221 it took me a while to get it removed so I stopped installing the remaining updates after that. This is the list of updates I put on that I found safe. I did not go through the remaining updates.

I am having the same issue as Vorisk. I found a work around for now, which is to press the reset button on the bottom of the laptop each time you shut down. I assume this clears the cache and allows it to start up perfectly fine, but I hope someone can provide an actual fix for this. very annoying.
    Thank you

Ahh, thanks i'll keep that in mind. I don't know why Windows updates would be causing the issue. Also kinda pissed that Asus isn't supporting drivers for this laptop. :/ Still tho looking for someone that HAS gotten it Windows 8 to run stable on their G73JH to give me a list of drivers they used. Adding to that note when I say Windows 8 I mean 8.1.

Well most motherboard manufacturers from that time wont be updating models that old either, it's the downside to progress of tech unfortunately. Interesting that resetting stored settings would allow it to start :/

    Hey Chastity,

I know this thread is old some months but I recently got into some troubles with my Asus G73JH-BST7:

I installed win 8 and since I got the laptop from a friend I found out some issues for which I am not sure how to proceed...

1.) What are the latest suggested drivers for win8. I suppose the drivers from http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...m/694090-windows-8-g73jh-resource-pool-4.html should be ok as you found out?

2.) When booting the laptop is very quiet but just after entering the desktop the fans start to make a lot of noise and this is constant no matter what profile I select in power settings. I will try to see if there are any changes after installing ( http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/Apps_for_Win8/Power4GearHybrid/Power4GH_ASUS_Win8_64_VER217.zip). The same noise was audible when I had win7 installed and idling.

I also plan to use an air compressor to clean out any dust from the fans and exhaust openings..

3.) Do you have any other suggestion beside installing everest or some similar tool to check for temperatures in order to see if thermal cooling is still ok?

I was under the impression that if the notebook is not under any load passive cooling should be ok/should be near silent..

I'll also check the bios and vbios to see if they are up to date.

4.) If I am using just the external keyboard/mouse what are te minimum drivers I should install(13.01 WHQL, Power4GearHybrid,...)

What is bothering me are points 2. and 3. since the notebook is very loud even if just surfing the net. Do you suggest completely opening the notebook and cleaning everything + reaplying the thermal paste to gpu and cpu? I am not so comfortable with this idea since I am afraid to break things?

5.) I found out in some reviews that my model has a combo USB/eSata port. Is this correct?

Any ideas and suggestions before I run out of patience? :)

PS: I think something is not right regarding normal operating temperatures so the fans kick in and are always on when thermal diodes see the increased temperatures. Is there something in bios I can change? I am not so sure opening the notebook :(

i have asus g73jh rbbx05 and i am still happy with windows 7.My questions to all experts is how did you install creative drivers along with realtek to coexist on windows 8 or 8.1 ? or is it same way
    as mentioned here
http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...-audio-center-lock-up-fix-15.html#post6972978 ------>i applied this method on win 7 if you want to get creative and realtek together in short modded versions.

Here's my personal recipe for clean-installing Windows 8.1 successfully, with all G73jh-specific functions still working:

    (A) Update BIOS to v213 (obtain from ASUS G73jh download page, see (E) below).

    (B) Update VBIOS to Chastity's OD2 version (see http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus-gaming-notebook-forum/634168-g73jh-vbios-93v.html#post8197355)

    (C) Enable UEFI in the BIOS

    (D) Do a clean install of Windows 8.1 (NOT an update or reinstall over an earlier or previous version).
IMPORTANT: The install process will ask you about settings for Windows Update. For now *DO NOT* let Windows install updates automatically! (You can change that later if you want).

    (E) You will need to download the following drivers/utilities:

    From the ASUS G73jh (Win7x64) download page ( http://www.asus.com/supportonly/G73Jh/HelpDesk_Download/):
    ======================================
Utilities > ATKACPI driver and hotkey-related utilities (ATKPackage_WIN7_32_WIN7_64_z100005.zip)
Utilities > ASUS Splendid Video Enhancement Technology (Splendid_Win7_32_64_1020028.zip)
Utilities > System Monitor Utility (NBProbe_WIN7_32_WIN7_64_300041.zip)
    Utilities > Power4Gear Hybrid Utility (Power4Gear_Hybrid_WIN7_64_z1137.zip)
LAN > Atheros LAN Driver (LAN_Atheros_Win7_64_z10029.zip)
    Others > Intel(R)_Management_Engine_Interface (MEI_Intel_XP32_Vista_Win7_6001179.zip)
Others > The Turbo Boost Monitor application (TurboBoostMonitor_XP_Vista_Win7_1011511.zip)
    CardReader
Camera (As appropriate to your hardware. I had a Chicony model camera that wasn't listed here, but eventually found Camera_Chicony_CNF_9060_Win7_64_615200290.zip on ASUS's FTP site, that worked).

From the ASUS Drivers for Win8.1 page:
(To get there got to ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- > click the ( i) button next to the "Enter Product's Model Name" entry box > Find your product by category > 1. Notebook > 2. Drivers for Win 8.1 > 3. ( choose driver))
    ===============================================================================================================================================================
    Audio > Realtek Audio Driver
    Bluetooth > Atheros BlueTooth driver
    KBFilter > KBFilter

From the ASUS Apps for Win8 page (as above, but choose "Apps for Win8", etc. instead of "Drivers for Win8.1" as the 'series'):
    ============================================================================================
    Enable ASUS OSD
    LifeFrame 3
    Virtual Camera
    Wireless Console 3

    From the ASUS Apps page:
    ====================================
ControlDeck (for Win7x64, but it works fine in 8.1)

    From External websites:
    ==================
ati.com - Catalyst Suite (display driver), & optionally additional codec pack
    synaptics.com - touchpad driver
intel.com - chipset drivers, IRST driver

    (F) Install drivers/utilities in this (recommended) order (rebooting whenever asked to):

    01 - Intel chipset drivers
02 - ATI Catalyst Suite (display driver)
    03 - Synaptics Touchpad driver
    04 - KBFilter
05 - ATK Package (!!! Must install KBFilter FIRST)
07 - Intel IRST driver (!!! Must install AFTER chipset drivers)
    06 - Wireless Console 3 (!!! Must install BEFORE wifi/wlan & bluetooth drivers)
    08 - LAN driver
    09 - Bluetooth driver
10 - Intel Management Engine Interface
    11 - Realtek Audio driver
    12 - ControlDeck
    13 - Enable ASUS OSD
    14 - Splendid
    15 - Camera driver
18 - ATI Catalyst codec pack
    19 - NBProbe
    20 - Turbo Boost Monitor
    21 - Power4Gear Hybrid
    22 - Virtual Camera
    23 - LifeFrame3

    (G) Do a manual Windows Update. Let Windows update the WiFi driver (note I didn't install one above), but *DO NOT* let Windows update the Atheros LAN driver! It will cause random/intermittent hangs if you do.
(That is, the computer freezes up and, needs to be re-started to recover).
Instead, select "hide this update" to ensure it's never applied. You can then change update settings to apply future updates automatically, if you want to.
If your computer did recieve this update and is hanging see if you can disable the Local Area Connection. This should make the system stable enough to try rolling back the LAN driver.

    That's it!

If these instructions don't work for you, or if you think I should have used any different drivers, please post to let me know!

    Cheers.
