A week ago I ordered a refurbished ASUS G73JH-RBBX05 and since then I've been lurking on this forum as I'm not exactly a pro with computers and it has the best advice for asus owners imo. Anyways it was delivered to me yesterday. Everything works perfectly except it can't connect to my router via wireless no matter what I do. My router is a N netgear wndr3300 and I have 3 other wireless computers hooked up to it with no problems. The network adapter inside my laptop is a Atheros AR8131 PCI-E Gb ethernet controller.

I've updated the latest drivers and updates to both my router and network adapter. My laptop has the 209 bios and updated vbios. The laptop works when I plug it in the router via ethernet so I thought it was the settings on the router that was the problem. I've looked online and changed the settings but no matter what it won't connect to the wireless. I've even looked inside the laptop to make sure the antennas were on, which they are. I've heard that this type of network adapter only works on the 2.4 channel, which is what my router is set on. I've looked for hours on the internet but no solutions have come up yet.

So any help would be appreciative and sorry for the long post.

I have the Netgear WNDR 3700 and it works fine on my end. And yes it uses the 2.4 GHz and not the 5 GHz band.
There is one thing I saw a few days ago at the Netgear site , there where a few who had this on your model of Wireless Router and had the same issue, I do not remember the details but you might go and read on the forum and see what was said.

One thing to check is to go into your Router settings and make sure all the setup are right, and check the speeds. Also make sure you do not have MAC filtering on, if you do it will not see your Notebook in till you put in the MAC address. On your Router turn on the 5 GHz even if you are not using this, at least in till you get up and running. I have seen issues with this in the past with some routers not working as they should with the 5 GHz off.

Another thing you can do is shut down your Router and all the other computer systems and then restart your Router and then start your G73 and see if your Router will see it then.
Also make sure that your wireless is turned on , I am sure you checked this but I have done the same and had the wireless off.

If you still do not get it running then PM me here and I will go into more depth with you on this , and not fill up pages with text .
