Evening,
Need some help here I am using my Xbox wireless adaptor to run Windows Media Centre through it as I like to watch full HD movies through my laptop wirelessly. My problem is the upload speed because it seems to only be able to reach 9gb/s through the wireless adaptor but it says it can handle upto 64gb/s.
This has nothing to do with the internet I am literally uploading the image from my laptop through my hub into my xbox.
My question is, is it the Atheros adaptor? Would upgrading to the Intel 6200 I think I saw people with the G73 JH upgrading to improve things?
Any other advice as to why im getting poor upload speed is appreciated I have checked the most common things disruption and wireless channel etc and it is all in one room without obstruction. When I check the connection speed it says poor and that it is far off being able to upload a HD image.

I swapped out the Atheros card after 2 days of owning my machine

Since this was posted I purchased the Advanced-N 6200 for ten quid!
Been reading a lot of posts about how bad the Atheros is so I will wait and see if that makes a difference before posting back. It is fine for Blu Ray rips when they are run around 5mb/s but anything requiring data of 6mb/s more its poor and drops out a lot.
Requested a new home hub too with better wireless technology. Hope it fixes it. -

Hi Dallers, still enjoying your XM ?? (",) Pity they dont handle your HD WiFi stream eh, hehe. All would be well then
Is your Xbox wireless G or N ?? If it is only G you can forget HD Video streaming I am afraid. Even if both (Xbox and Lappy) are Wireless N streaming HD content will be flaky in my opinion.
I would connect an Ethernet cable if possible at all times.

It is A, B or G
does that mean I need to pick up one of the N adaptors?
B appears to be fast enough but how would I change the Xbox to pick up B?
Hoping the N6200 should help with the drop outs I have been experiencing though. -
I am pretty sure A and B predate G
lol meaning you wouldnt want to put the Xbox on B because it is an older tech.
5ghz N is what is supposed to transmit HD Video the best (realistically) afaik.
The 6200N supports it, now you just need the other half of that equation; the xbox wireless at the same speed/frequency. -
-
Yes well it has to do with more then just its speed rating, A B G at the 2.4ghz frequency are so commonly used, and their channels so saturated, that you end up with lots of interference and drop outs, especially when trying to transmit large amounts of data.
Unfortunately, networking/wireless is far from my expertise as well lol so ill leave it to the real experts on this one. Good luck there Dallers (btw: that wouldnt happen to also be your Live Tag name would it??)

Here's what i did for my setup: Intel 6200 5GHz N -> Linksys E3000 -> wired to the 360 hehe. Of course, that requires the 360 being close to the router. When you say a new home hub, do you mean router or router + modem in the same package. If it'S the latter and the speed is still crap, you can always hook a third party router to your modem like i did. Bye bye crappy 2wire wi-fi

@Tijo it is all in one small room I live in a flat so literally Laptop to BT homehub is 2 metre's then hub to xbox is one metre.
I am waiting for a new router to be sent out the new BT 3.0 home hub. Got the 6200 from laptop monkey its an OEM should be here tommorow.
It is running on 802.11G so why am I only managing to get 9mb max? Really would like to get this working nice I have a 50 inch plasma waiting to be used -
9mb/s is slow true, but in file transfer, you won't get near 54mb/s considering the overhead. 20mb/s should be easy to attain though, for some reason, my 360 (older 60G model without the integrated wi-fi + the overly expensive MS adapter for it) seems to be slower on the wireless than my PS3 so the 360 might be the weakest link.

Well I have a newer Xbox 360 with the official wireless adaptor. Im wondering if I should sell it and pick up one of the N Adaptors that you can now get for it.
What you reckon? Will the latest Hub and new N-6200 make a difference?
Any ideas how to get the speed up? I managed to get 11mb max but that cannot handle movies that are high data rate for 720p -
Laptop monkey are total legends. N-6200 Delivered in 24 hours and it has raised my wireless reception bar up by 3 bars and is pushing out 17mb/s instead of 9mb. Time will tell about the drop outs but clearly this card has far better reception.
Its a start. New Hub needed before considering an N xbox adaptor. -
A couple thoughts:
1) Login to your router and, if you want to, ensure that it is set to only support G (thereby removing any doubt about it "reverting" to B for some odd reason).
2) Double-check bits (little b's) versus bytes (big B's). G's theoretical max is 54Mb/s, or approx. 6.75MB/s.
3) If you are performing a file transfer between two wireless devices, the theoretical max then gets halved, as the router has to retransmit the packet to the receiving device. So, your max throughput (not accounting for overhead and other limiting factors) becomes 27Mb/s, or approx. 3.375MB/s. If you are, in fact, seeing 17Mb/s transfers, I'd say that's within reason.
4) If your router supports it, conduct a "site survey" of your environment to see if there are any other wireless networks on your channel. If there are, then switch to channel 1, 6, or 11... whichever is the least crowded and/or has the lowest powered neighboring signals. -
especially from a WoW player....must resist temptation to return.....
+1
It would seem I am getting all I can from my G setup,I have an N router and wireless card it seems sensible to pick up an N adaptor for my xbox to run higher speeds. -
This won't push you past the G max of 54Mb/s, but it should get you closer since your laptop and Xbox won't be stomping on each other.
EDIT- So, on a Linksys router I believe it would look like this:
5GHz Network:
Network Mode= Wireless-N Only
SSID= DallersN
2.4GHz Network:
Network Mode= Wireless-G Only
SSID= DallersG
