Anyone else run the witcher 2 and it runs like absolute crap on low settings, 1980x1080 and all drivers updated. Specs in SIG. I don't see how the resolution can kill my laptop that bad, it's the first time it seems as though there is actually a game my laptop can't run.

I've got Witcher 2 on steam. I'll install it and tell you how it ran later on.

You can't expect to run a game on max resolution on a 1.5 year old mobile gpu, while even normal desktop set ups have trouble maxing this game out.

Let me guess you have UBERSAMPLING turned on?

Turn it off ;) It is made for SLI/Xfire setups.

It will run at mostly high settings at 1080p as long as you limit the AA and shadows and can put up with 20-30fps.

I spent a long time trying to get that game working well. I ended up settling with High everything, most of the special effects on, no ubersampling or blur, 8xAA, 8xAF on 1366x780 or something. No matter what I tried, I couldnt get the game running smoothly at 1080p.. I cant bear looking at that game without high shadows, sunshafts, bloom, SSAO and DOF.. but with those on the fights played out at 24fps.. :( chose to give up my resolution in favour of all the other stuff.

Patching the game improves performance quite a bit.

See 20-30fps with your settings is about right the 5870M although still a great card cannot produce amazing results when it comes to the Witcher 2. I am just downloading it now and will test it on my 6990M but I do not expect amazing results either and no ubersampling. Sadly with this game to enjoy it the most you need a desktop with more than one GPU to have everything maxed to the limit if you intend to play it on a laptop you have to make sacrifices I got it running at 40FPS+ at 1600x900 with all settings maxed bar ubersampling on my JH so at the resolution you mentioned it would run easily smooth.

He did say he's running it on low settings and it doesn't work, so I'd assume that ubersampling is off.

My download is at 80% btw, so in a few hours I can post results on how it runs on mine (same GPU and an i5)

Not necessarily because Ubersampling is an option not a setting and it is forced on as standard you have to turn it off.

Even so it is clear that something is not running correctly as most have been fine achieving high at 1080p with around 25-30fps. You might need to consider overclocking if you need more output but still the Witcher 2 required the desktop version of the card you are using, sacrifice smooth gameplay and enjoy the game its fantastic.

It is not the best game you will ever play but it is damn close, the story, the gameplay, graphics and the ladies it is well worth paying full price for but with a 40% coupon no question of a doubt.

Minimum of 2-4 replays depending what route you take and options you choose + tons of side quests. Sadly IMO just far too short it was so good you just want more.

    Witcher 3 can't come fast enough :D

I still enjoyed Witcher 2 more than Skyrim. Bethesda is just disappointment for me. Such a large developer with so much resources and develops a game in x87. It's the shame of PC gaming of the decade for me. Bethesda is the worst PC game developer as far as I'm concerned, as management. Just lucky they have some good artists and some good scriptors.

It's been off on default for me on both machines. ;)

Anyway, tested it now. I'm getting abt 25-30 frames with everything on max (but ubersampling off). Reducing the shadows to medium makes it playable (with frames usually well over 30). Running it with a 460 and an i5 (2.3ghz) 4GB RAM.

Have you tried reinstalling? Defragged your harddrive lately? Installed newest Nvidia drivers (I have the beta 290 ones)?

Agreed Witcher 3 will be even more awesome but I have to agree to disagree about Skyrim. I love it, I am not engrossed to the story but I love it. It focuses more on atmosphere and environment rather than bringing the story to life and does not focus hugely on AI acting and other features that made Baldurs Great the best RPG but still does quite well.

I can understand why they could not make the graphics as good as they should be because the map is vast but mainly the console port thing ruined it just like it ruined Oblivion. The Witcher 2 wins because it was made for the PC and when it is maxed it looks as good as it plays and the storyline is fantastic.
