    Hi all,

I may have to sell my laptop, but I'm having trouble finding out what they are selling for second hand.

It looks like they're still going for around $2000 new(in Australia), but there are also quite a few people listing refurbished laptops as brand new for closer to $1000... This is the part that worries me, because if I'm competing with "new" laptops at $1000, I'm going to have to sell for $800 or something. That's a pretty hefty loss considering I bought mine for ~$2000 only 9 or so months ago.

I guess all I'm really asking is if anyone has sold a G73JW-A1 recently and how much they got for it. I'm particularly interested if you live in Australia, but replies from other parts of the world would also be helpful.

    Quick spec list:

    i7 @ 2.93 GHz
    8GB DDR3 ram
    Blu ray reader
    500GB HDD
I also had the retailer upgrade the thermal paste to IC diamond and upgraded the wireless card. Still has over 2 years of warranty left.

    Thanks!

NOTE: This is not an advertisement. I'm not trying to find a buyer here - just trying to get a rough estimate of the worth of my laptop.

I wouldn't pay $800 for a NINE MONTH old laptop 2nd hand from someone I don't know, without any 90 day guarantee warranty from a dealer or any confidence that the laptop is refurbished and ready for resale.

    - The technology in your laptop is OLD, and entire new class, generation of hardware is out now. So no, it's not a big loss IMO. These are computers, not some piece of furniture where style/technology remains stagnant for hundreds of years or the value of the product increases with age. No one wants a 1 year old laptop for $800.
    - You definitely need to show proof that your warranty with 2 years left is transferable. Irrefutable proof!

You can buy a brand new Asus for $1200, a G74, only $400 more with the 2 year full warranty, 1 year accidental, and new generation of hardware.

Where do you live? Just curious, because I haven't seen any $1200 G74s in Australia.

EDIT: Just as a note, there is a ~$500 discrepancy between what you pay new for the asus G model laptops in Aus and in the US. Take that into account when reading the prices I have listed. The newer G74SX(and even many G53/73SW) laptops are still selling for over $2000 here.

Computers are one of the fastest things when it comes to depreciating prices. what you buy now will usually end up selling for 2/3 its price NOW than in about 6-9 months. That's because computer technology grows really fast and things stuff coming out today go outdated really quick. New stuff come out every quarter of the year. And not to mention you're selling it 2nd hand. I suggest selling it to someone you know personally who is interested. Maybe you can get a fair price on the item. For them maybe $800 would be a good buy.
